I hear that shit from the rabid ultra right wing all the time (i.e., my parents included). I don't think welfare should be easy and rosy, but we do have a responsibility at times as a society. A hand-UP rather than a hand-OUT.... Those disabled should be dealt with with kindness and care, with a program other than general welfare.

If you are sucking the blood of productive citizens for your nourishment, you should get 2 choices at the grocery store. A sack of gruel that is nutritious yet bland and milk. Maybe throw in some bulk quantities of brown rice and dry beans.

Free lunch at school? Fuck that. If you can't feed your kids, they should get in the outmeal line for breakfast and the soup line at lunch. Sound cruel? net really. Training people to depend on the system is the ultimate cruelty. IF you feed a kid nutritious but tasteless and make them stand in the line of shame for poor kids, there is a good chance that they will want better for their kids and decide to take advantage of their free education and make something of themselves.

Welfare SHOULD suck. You SHOULD be embarrased if you rely on the wages of people that actually work.

Does that include people like George W. Bush whose whole family has been on public assistance since he was born? Whose medical expenses including his daughters' rehab has been paid for by the American taxpayer? You wanna see "welfare Moms" driving to "socialized" medical appointments in Mercedeses, look at your Congressman.
