    Very Painful Balls (testicles)

I suffered with mumps mid June and since then my balls have been VERY painful. The pain does not go away and it feels like I've been kicked in them. During the mumps, they did swell to more than twice their normal size now the question is could this be a good enough reason for getting a doctor to agree for me to them removed? Something has to happen because I can't continue with this pain.

I would definitley say you should at least discuss this with a doctor and see what he or she says. Mumps is a virus, isn't it? I don't know much about medicine but viruses can cause genetic mutation, which can lead to cancer. Certainly something worth keeping in mind.

Mumps?! I thought they stamped that out years ago. You have my sincere sympathy. I had the mumps many years ago and had similar problems. Since then my testes have been ultra sensitive. Maybe I got used to the kicked in the balls feeling or? Anyhow most likely due to damage from the mumps I was diagnosed as having hupogonadism and started taking testosterone (Which feels great btw) When I started HRT the pains went down quite a bit. However they have started up again and with it the HRT is shrinking them so.... I say speak to a doctor about "everything" replacements and implants may not be the right solution but you have to tell your Doctor so he/she can start working on a plan.

Good luck! BTW I would NOT go for pain numbing meds. Too easily to let that screw you up. For temporary relief use a frozen bag of peas. This cooling has worked for me in the past.

Well, the doctor is aware of my constant pain, but as yet has only given me anti inflammatory and painkillers, both of which have screwed up my stomach and have not been affective. I need to go back shortly to discuss the options.

I had the mumps for the second time on the inside of my body when I was 16. The right testicle swelled to the size of a baseball cutting off the blood supply. It was 2 months before I could walk without pain. I never went to a doctor or hospital. Years later I asked my urologist about removing it and he said, "leave well enough alone." Another one baller who experienced the same thing had his removed at the time of the pain and told me that it was black in color. Yeah that testicle is still super sensitive today. No pain on a daily basis, but just squeeze it a little bit and it will hurt a lot.

I was able to convince my Dr. to remove both of mine due to pain. In fact after the second surgery I woke of and I was in pain from the surgery, but the pain level was actually less than before the surgery. I did not even take any pain pill after the surgery, as the pain was lower than the months leading up to the surgery. My Dr. did try the anti-inflammatory's and pain killer for awhile on me too, and they did nothing. Be percistant and you will adventually get them removed. I spent about 8 months and two different surgeries. I am still recovering from my surgery from two weeks ago. The swelling is down to almost nothing, and the sac is healing quite well.

    Re: Very Painful Balls (testicles)

You have to answer the question, "Do I really want to be castrated?" If you answer "yes" to that question, then you can use the extreme pain as your reason for wanting castration. If you have any doubts, then don't do it. Why? Even though you can use "testosterone" replacement, you will NOT experience things as you did when you had your testicles. I do not get those pulsating desires where I want to have sex and have it now. I've been castrated for approx. seven months and I can tell you that though I have erections and can engage in sexual intercourse, I do not get the overwhelming urges that I did when I had my testicles. When I have sex, I find myself wanting to satisfy my wife more than myself. I don't think about sex like I did before I was castrated. I do keep my testosterone levels low, but right after I was castrated I used a lot of testosterone, more then my body ever produced on it's own, I tested upwards of 1100ml's, which is crazy high, but it did not make a sexual lunatic, my body hair went wild, but sexually I was stable. I'm telling you this just in case you have any doubts. I like the new me, but that's because I needed & wanted castration, but if you are not 100% sure that you want castration, then do not pursue it. If you really want and need castration, then by all means use your extreme pain as a reason for pursuing castration. Here's my advice:

Some doctors/urologists will still be resistent and will not castrate you for any reason. Others are less resistent, once in a while you might find one who is more sympathetic. If your current doctor will not castrate you because of the extreme pain, keep searching until you find one that will. You must be persistent and tell them that you would rather be castrated than live with the pain. You could also tell them that it's gotten so bad that you've considered castrating yourself, that will get their attention. That statement will have greater effect then leaving things up to them. Most doctors will treat the symptons rather then surgically altering you in any way. Remember, female doctors/urologists, from my experience are more compassionate and sympathetic. If you live near a large city, your chances of finding a sympathetic surgeon are greater, but keep trying, it can't hurt

Have the same thing, of pain, but mine goes from the nut on up the cord, walk very much, and you have nausia, from the pain, and it migrates on over to the right side ,had a epididiectomy done a few yrs back, it did help, but, the left side still had problems, varicoles now, have fought the pains for a long time, really want both gone, and be done with it,and do HRT.
going to get the left one with cord taken out, finally, when I told the doc Ive had it, going to do it my self, if he didnt, it did get his attention ,doc said ok, when do you want to do it, now I have to wait till jan 07 , getting better insurance at beginning of the yr, now to make it to jan, thats the agrivating part.

will see how things go, since hash and others have mentioned about things not being the same, with both gone, if I can get away with 1 left, and no pain, I`ll leave things at that.

wish to thank all of those who shared experiences on this board, I learned alot, and kept me from doing something stupid

For pain relief here are some of the tricks I've used. Suspesitories are a sort of jock strap that holds the scrotum tightly. Its not perfect but it avoids letting them sling around. Frozen Peas. I've driven to work more then a few times with this trick. You could try "taping" which I used when I can't sleep before the suspensitory but I think it just puts the pain off to where you untape. And having them stuffed up inside you is maybe not a good idea.

I can only speak for my own situation. My gonads are shut down. Damage from the Mumps (twice also! We must play the lottery together!) Chronic orchialgia and I've been on HRT for a while. Life for me went from sucking major league to 1000x better. Sex went from being "ok" to wow WOW W O W. Low Hormone levels can be raised back to normal but the longer you've been in the tank the longer it takes for everything to get better. Maybe there is more to it or I've been so screwed up for so long I don't remember what it feels like to have a functioning pair.

Anyway, Hash I hope HRT eventualy works for you as well as it does for me.

Search Google for Chronic Orchialgia and you will see in short that they suggest the patient try anti inflamatories *which rarely work. A nerve block to relieve pain. *Again this rarely provides relief. A mental health screening (In case the pain is pychogenic) and then Bilaterial Orchiectomy using the iguanal method (Cutting off almost all of the cords) Pain relief percentage is very high.

Also there is more to it then just testosterone. Estrogen plays a big part.
If you used injectable T and OD on it then your E2 level is probally high which counters the effects of T.

there is a yahoo group hypogonadism2 which has several documents on the subject.

Without pissing everyone off I am glad to talk to other guys in similar situations.

I really don't know how long I've had hypogonadism (Non functioning testes) so perhapes I can't report accurately how well HRT works for me. I take Androgel and since then things are much much better for me. I had the mumps for the second time as a young man so perhapes I just can't remember when I was hormonaly healthy? That said, I could really do without the constant pains. I also don't care for the atrophy of my "pair." For what its worth talk to your doctor when your insurance kicks in and discuss HRT, Orchiectomy and Implants. You will want to think this out long and hard. This is a one way street. There are other things to consider. A pain clinic might be the answer for you. It might also be possible that your pains can be controlled in other ways such as talking to a mental health professional *Although between you and me I doubt it. But who knows?

If you do go with HRT be sure to note symptoms and report back to your doctor. It takes a lot of fiddling with dose to get your hormones right again. Once you do you will be a lot happier if your experience is anything like mine.

Good Luck! Stay in touch I'm curious what happens

    Mrt,

Stay in touch I'm curious what happens,

dont worry, I `ll let everyone know, how things go,

the waiting part to me so far is the hard part, kind of like a abcessed tooth, you are ready to get rid of the problem, been mentally ready for the orchi, as to a implant, really dont want it, believe it or not.

did have some blood work done, lately, doc was courious on what T level I had now.
Im technically hypogonadal right now, 174ng.dl , the docs low limit was 240ng.dl, thing is, I was at 260 when I had the epididy surgery on both sides(after that episode, I made up my mind of any thing else, I wanted the nuts gone) close to 8yrs ago, and nothing has really changed for me, as to frequency and enjoyment(outside of the pain issue) on the sex end of things

and also found out I was hypothyroid, wonder if the low T helps cause that too?

    and the saga continues

    Re: Very Painful Balls (testicles)

Wow mumps Orchitis similar to the bacterial Chronic Orchitis that I had where they had swollen to grapefruits and I was in bed for a month......
My Dr did not think it was that serious I was too young, I think it was wrong because mabye the testicles could have been saved if taken more seriousley.

So I guess whacking them with a paddle is out of the quesiton

Seriously though...as the old saying goes (with a twist of course) If at first you do not succeed ask a different doctor! I have found that some doctors (like people) are more conservative and others more liberal! One doctor might say, "take two and call me in the morning!" the other might say, "Oh dear, oh My, lets whack them off!" just had to...
