Thread: One Day in the Life of a Wolf

There is an old story I always liked, I think of it as an O'Henry story but I'm not sure.
The gist is that a rich guy puts on a dinner for the down and out with the stipulation
that they are not required to listen to a sermon, as the dinner progresses and they all
find out there will be no sermonizing they are very disappointed.

WOO HOO, my check came today.

I celebrated by going grocery shopping only for the dire necessities of life: milk, cereal, bread, bolonga, jam, peanut butter, Cokes, a few cans of veggies, potatoes, ice and cookies.

It occurs to me that you could pck up a crock-pot for $5 or less at Goodwill or a yard sale, and a sack of beans and rice (poverty's friends) and be pretty much protected from the hungry time at the end of the month,

I have the crock pot. Now to just find some beans that would taste decent for 3 or 4 days. Suggestions?

A few minutes ago, my friend Terry made himself $5.00 in beer money by installing a lock on my second bedroom door.

Finally, I think my bedroom/pantry is safe from incursions

I am not sure about California statutes, yet I have a hunch that the next incursion (which I hope never happens) may activate a "breaking and entering" label, and, I have another hunch that "breaking and entering" is not merely a civil matter, and that police are capable of understanding that, if it is true where you live.

I heard of a family in which a homeowner allowed an impoverished relative to visit, without checking on what made for legal residence. The relative stayed long enough to qualify as a resident of the home, and, by the time the dust settled, the home was under bankruptcy foreclosure, which was averted by some truly decent help from another, not-impoverished relative.

How often does a good deed manage to go unpunished?

I hope for you a decent form of safety and personal security, the troubles of this world notwithstanding.

My two favorite O'Henry's were: Gift of the Maji and Ransom of Red Chief.

O'Henry (William Sydney Porter) had a gift of telling stories about ordinary people.

A blue van pulled up on the driveway next to me. The driver exited and open the back doors. She then grabbed a megaphone and announced to the neighborhood she had free baked goods for everyone.

I went over and grabbed a loaf of bread and some bagels.

Hopefully, next week the hamburger van comes too - heheheheh

Start with the classics, New Orleans Red Beans & Rice, Southern Hoppin' John (Black eyed peas & rice,) Cuban Moors & Christians (Black Beans & Rice). Save any bones or scraps of meat (beans and pork is an eternal match) & throw in for flavor, an onion or two and you're set for a delicious meal. A pound of ground beef that would feed at most four can flavor a pot of beans that will feed 15.

eh gads, i suddenly feel the waters rising above my head. Actually, it's the complete opposite - lol

I just talked to the city water company. To get my water turned back on, I need to pay $352.00 - ouch.

That's $217.00 for a back payment and the rest is half of the deposit.

I'm up a creek without water but with a paddle going nowhere - lol

Liz had offered to pay $300 towards my water bill. She had received a refund for $4,500. Today, however, she found out that most of it is being claimed for her past debts.

The best laid plans of mice, men and wolves I guess :P

The trick now will be to insure that you don't do something dumb and
get the house taken away from you.

I was notified today about a bit of bad news: my physician moved her clinic several miles farther away. So far, I haven't found a bus that goes within two miles of it

Needless to say my water has been off and on the last several days. Today, the city shut it off again. Now it looks as though I'll be walking to JITB to use their bathroom at night - fun huh -
