Dear Friends,
It is with great regret that we must announce to you the recent and unexpected passing of one of our own. Farrell Squire (G. Farrell Squire) passed away this week due to Renal Cell Carcinoma. He was 57.
Farrell penned 46 stories on the archive and was a regular on the bulletin board since 1999. Those of us who have read his work will remember him as an educated and talented man. Some may not know but he was also an accomplished researcher.
This is bitter pill to swallow for all of us whose lives were touched by Farrell but we can take comfort in the fact that our lives were touched by him and thus enriched. He shall be missed.
We are including a note written by his sister that was forwarded to us.
>Dear XXXXXX,
>
>Well things went as well as can be expected. Part of his ashes
>were placed at the Veteran's Cemetery and the majority we scattered
>from the top of the mountain as planned. It was very hot, about
>102 degrees, and the heat index even higher, so only about 9
>or 10 of us were crazy enough to make the climb. The total distance
>by the trail was about 1 1/2 miles each way or 3 mile hike round
>trip.
>
>It is still hard to believe he is gone, and it will be a long
>time before I quit turning around to share some tidbit of information
>or another with the brother who isn't there, or ask him a question.
>
>Please do go ahead and make the announcement on list as I think
>it is appropriate that his readers and friends online should
>know he is gone. It is good to know he touched so many, even
>those he never met in person. We plan to place a copy of the
>paper in the niche with his urn at the cemetery once it is published.
>
>His death certificate stated Renal Cell Carcinoma with mets to
>the liver and lungs as the cause of death. It must have been
>a very aggressive tumor. It is a grim reminder of how quickly
>our lives can slip away without warning.
>
>Thank you for your assistance and support throughout this ordeal.
>I appreciate your taking care of the online community for us
>as we have our hands quite full. He told me many of them called
>him "Uncle Farrell" as he was one of the older members. That
>is how they will remember him.
Farrell’s two Yahoo lists eandmlifestyle, and psychemaculation are still active for the time being as a colleague has taken over the duties of moderation.
Sincerely,
Bboy, Paolo, and myself, talula
P.S. A reminder of Farrells avatar and self-portrait
