    Fuck for Singapore

As Singapore celebrates its independence, there is one unofficial song making the rounds. Mentos mints has a new ad campaign which includes a rap song which urges citizens to do their civic duty and solve the low birthrate problem by making a baby on National Night. Male vocalists sing: The birthrate won't spike itself!

Singapore at 7.72 per 1000 has one of the lowest birthrates in the world. The problem is that the population keeps dwindling if they do not allow immigration. However, many locals complain that immigrants only take jobs from citizens and use too many services. The only alternative to disappearing or allowing immigration is a higher birthrate. The government has tried many things without much success. It has baby bonus tax breaks and maturnity leave for mothers. Thru its Social Development Unit, the government subsidizes speed dating events and salsa dance classes. It also prints instructional comic books which show, for example, a young woman who is waiting for the right one only to find a wrinkled 100-year old man is the only one with whom she agrees 100% with. In 2008, the President spent 5,000 words in a speech discussing the birth rate crisis and how easy it was to change diapers now.

All of that seems to have some effects. A 2003 survey by a condom manufacturer showed Singapore was in the bottom three worldwide in frequency of sex. By 2008 more Singaporeans were having sex once a week than Americans, English, Canadians or Australians. But the birthrate just isn't rising.

The Mentos video does have one disclaimer to be sure it doesn't get too far ahead of public mores: It states that only financially secure adults in a stable, committed, long-term relationship should participate.

I'd fuck for Singapore, but I don't think my semen would produce the desired results for a couple reasons.

6th in health care per world health, the USA is ranked somewhere in the mid 30's.

They get into these societal campaigns (I remember reading about one to stop people spitting in public) which are kind of goofy in our culture, but you do have to admire the results.

It doesn't take just Asian cultures to have better health care. I remember when in Chile I checked out how the health system was rated and it was above the US. I do not remember the source, but probably a world health website.

Yep, the USA ranks at the bottom in health care, the only part we lead in is the cost, we pay more then double anybody else but If we did not pay those high insurance costs, the 1% would not be able to afford another caddy this year.

After all everybody knows corporations are people.

    Re: Fuck for Singapore

Sorry to intrude with my tasteless and offensive opinion on Singapore, but... Singapore SHOULD disappear!

Many years ago, I read a news article about a 25 year old woman, a MOTHER by the way, who had been tricked into packing something in her luggage on a flight to Singapore. Her name was Angel Mou Pui Ping, and the Singapore "justice" system was just so eager and happy to hang her. My honest and frank opinions about Singapore are quite hate filled, F**K SINGAPORE! I HOPE THEY DO DISAPPEAR! They are a bunch of hate filled anal retentive F**KS, and they should be recognized by the whole world as a perverted sick society that deserves to "dwindle away."

    http://www.capitalpunishmentuk.org/angel.html

I will say it again FUCK SINGAPORE, I hope they do burn in the eternal hell that I don't myself believe in.

Angel Mou Pui - Peng, a 25 year old unmarried mother, was hanged in Changi prison before dawn on Friday the 6th of January 1995. She became the 95th person (and third woman) to hang under Singapore's strict 1975 anti-drug laws. Cheuk Mei-mei, 29, also from Hong Kong, was executed in 1994 and another three women were executed for drug trafficking in 1995 including two who were only 18 at the time of their crime. Altogether 30 people were hanged in Singapore for drug trafficking in 1995 with a further six men and one woman (Flor Contemplacion) being hanged for murder. Although there have been more female executions for murder, only one other woman has been hanged for drug offences since the end of 1995. (Navarat Maykha, a Thai national, was executed in September 1996.)

Under Singapore law, the death sentence is mandatory for anyone over 18 convicted of trafficking in more than 15 grams (half an ounce) of heroin, 30 grams (one ounce) of morphine or 500 grams (18 oz.) of cannabis. Prisoners have an automatic right of appeal to the Appeal Court and if that fails, may petition the President for mercy. However, death sentences are virtually always carried out. I know of only one case where a reprieve was granted - to a Burmese man who was completely illiterate and clearly had no idea that he was committing a crime.

Angel was arrested at Singapore's Changi airport on August the 29th, 1991, after arriving from Bangkok, with a suitcase containing 20 packets totaling over 4.1 kg of heroin according to The Central Narcotics Bureau. At her trial, she claimed she did not know the false-bottom suitcase contained heroin and thought she was carrying contraband watches instead. She was found guilty and sentenced to death in 1993 and as usual in Singapore, both her appeals were rejected.
However, she was granted a temporary stay of execution on the 22nd of December 1994, apparently to allow her family to visit her over Christmas, after a plea by her mother and nine year old son, having been originally scheduled to hang on Friday the 23rd of December with two Singaporean drug traffickers.

On the eve of her execution, her lawyer Peter Yap said that she was "normal and calm" when he saw her. He said she "was emotionally stable and prepared to die. Spiritually she was very strong." He also said Angel was comforted by the settlement of guardianship for her son. The day before her execution, she would have been weighed by Singapore's executioner, Darshan Singh, to enable calculation of the correct drop. The British Home Office 1913 table of drops is still used. Unusually, Angel was executed on her own (due to the stay.) At about 5.30 a.m., she would have been escorted by her guards to a waiting room to be prepared. Shortly before 6.00 a.m. her hands would have been handcuffed behind her back and a black cloth hood placed over her head. She would then have been led the few meters to the gallows at 6.00 a.m. local time. Her legs would have been strapped together and the leather covered noose placed round her neck. Singh then told her "I am going to send you to a better place than this. God bless you."
After execution, the body was returned to relatives and she was cremated in the early evening at Mount Vernon crematorium after a short service attended by her family and friends.
"Our sister Angel has now been taken to heaven - a place we will go and we shall hope to see her there one day," an elderly pastor, speaking in Cantonese, told the congregation of some 25 people.
"When are you coming back to Hong Kong?" a young woman cried in Cantonese as she, Angel's sister, Cecilia, and a few others watched the coffin, covered in black velvet, disappear into the furnace.
Her father, reportedly reconciled with his daughter during her brief stay of execution, broke down uncontrollably after the cremation.

Macau was a Portuguese province and the President of Portugal, Mario Soares and the Portuguese government appealed for clemency on the grounds of Angel's youth and the fact that she was only a carrier. But according to Portuguese officials, Singapore said it could not differentiate between foreigners and its own people.
The Governor of Macau expressed deep sorrow and called the execution "revolting," the Portuguese news agency Lusa reported. "For someone like me who is a citizen of a country that takes a pride in being one of the first that abolished capital punishment, the loss of human life is something that is incomprehensible and even revolting," Lusa quoted Governor, Rocha Vieira Vasco as saying in a message to Angel's mother. Chris Patten, who was at the time the Hong Kong Governor, said the British colony had supported a plea for clemency put forward by Britain and the European Union.

    Comment.

Does this seem a sadly familiar story, the teenage girl who is at loggerheads with her parents and gets pregnant at 16? She inevitably drifts into poverty and crime and becomes an easy target for exploitation by those who make a fortune from drugs. Sadly she was sent as a carrier to one of the few countries in the world where they have no compunction about executing young women. Whilst I accept that she was guilty, I doubt somehow that she was evil but rather think her motive was purely the small sum she hoped to make had she got away with it.

Whether you feel that people should die for drug trafficking is a another question, but at least, unlike so many countries, Singapore carries out death sentences even handedly and does not discriminate on the grounds of sex, race or age above the minimum, which is 18. As usual, it refused to bow to outside pressure (from Portugal, Hong Kong and the E U).

However, many people may feel that death is an extreme penalty for merely carrying the drugs for which the "mules", as they are known, usually receive very little reward whilst the "Mr. Bigs" make millions from the safety of their mansions. Equally there are many who admire Singapore's tough and unbending stance on crime which has helped to make it a safe and prosperous country. Interestingly most Singaporeans support their tough laws and executions rate just a paragraph or two in the press, if mentioned at all.
Why is it that even in countries like Singapore and Malaysia people are still not deterred from crime by the death penalty? Are they stupid, desperate for money or do they think that somehow they won't be caught.
Angel may or may not have known what she was carrying, but even if you believe her story, she knew she was smuggling which, no doubt, would have carried a heavy prison sentence in Singapore.

We could move Singapore to Pahrump and nobody would be executed, thusly putting your mind at ease.

Seriously, I have wondered the same question about why. I worked several months in the middle east, flying in and out of a major city. They publicly behead people in that city every Friday for things like murder, smuggling drugs, etc. You can plan ahead. I don't think they ever have run out of people to behead.

They do have a no tolerance rule there that's for sure, I think gum chewing was a capital crime at one time, still may be. No wonder they have a zero growth population, nobody even wants to fuck, it could be considered rape and who would want there nuts cut off just for fucking.

Scratch that last part, wrong site to ask that question.

    Re: Fuck for Singapore

Yes, I remeber that too, the boy had been caught spray painting grafitti on cars.

    http://www.nytimes.com/1994/06/27/us...the-scars.html

Now let's be clear on the matter, if some kid spray paints graffiti anywhere, I do strongly believe in the HARSHEST PUNISHMENT for such a brat, I believe that punishment must be fair enough, and always SWIFT, not delayed. I do believe in some outright harsh and brutal things for punishment, but NEVER a death penalty for anything.

My problem with the "justice" system in Singapore and the U.S. and many other places, is that nobody actually gives a fuck about actually correcting the character flaws that cause a criminal to committ a crime, also nobody gives a fuck about adequately and appropriately compensating the victim of crimes.

In this case of Michael Fay, I think Singapore went out of their way to say to the world "SEE! Look at us, the MIGHTY SINGAPORE! We aren't afraid of even the big bad U.S. of A." That is why they made such a big deal of caning an American teenager, hell, if they had just shut the fuck up about it, administered the punishment on the spot and on the VERY DAY the kid spray painted the grafitti, and sent the brat home to mama, then hell, I would not have a problem with it. But it was NOT about grafitti, it was about Singapore having a "little yapping dog" mentality, just making a big point that they can beat American kids, they WANTED the world to see how big and brave they were to stand up to the U.S., hell, if they weren't such a little dog nation, they would simply administer their justice and be done with it, but instead they want to attract the attention like a little yapping dog.

There are some people here who often say "Bomb Detroit," well, I am one who says "FUCK SINGAPORE!" I really hate the "little yapping dog" mentality, how they go out of there way to say "SEE! Look at us! Mighty and strong! Even the U.S. of A. bows down the the mighty Singapore!"

May I say it again? "FUCK SINGAPORE!"

    Re: Fuck for Singapore

I remember one find summer day when my three youngest decided to use blue spray paint on my neighbors rustic gate, they also got the side of his garage.

The neighbor was cool about the whole thing he had just painted his house so had paint to cover the spray.

As for the gate, I got some 000 sand paper, the very finest you can fine, then I put those three boys to work sanding that paint out. After a couple hours their fingers were raw, they swore to me that they would never ever do something that stupid again but there was still paint for them to get out of the gate. I conceded it and told them to go to there rooms. I then went to my garage and got a paint scraper device that you put on a drill, plugged that puppy in and in about 30 seconds the job was done.

I know my sons never painted again.

Raw Story / By David Edwards

Newt Gingrich Proposed the Death Penalty for Pot
-- Even Though He Admitted to Smoking It

Newt Gingrich proposed the death penalty for marijuana in 1997, and yet he is one of the 100 million Americans who have smoked marijuana.

Over the weekend, struggling Republican presidential candidate Gary Johnson reminded MSNBC viewers that GOP frontrunner Newt Gingrich had once to called to punish some drug offenders with death.

“Newt Gingrich, in 1997, proposed the death penalty for marijuana — for possession of marijuana above a certain quantity of marijuana,” Johnson explained. “And yet, he is among 100 million Americans who’ve smoked marijuana.”

“I would love to have a discussion with him on the fact that he smoked pot, and under the wrong set of circumstance he proposed the death penalty for, potentially, something that he had committed. I have troubles with that,” he added.

Johnson, a former New Mexico governor who has advocated for marijuana legalization since 1999, is at least partially correct about Gingrich’s position.

As Speaker of the House, Gingrich introducedthe “Drug Importer Death Penalty Act of 1996.”

The bill would have required a “sentence of death for certain importations of significant quantities of controlled substances.” It would have applied to anyone convicted more than once of carrying 100 doses — or about two ounces — or marijuana across the border. Defendants would have had a window of 18 months to file their one and only appeal.

“If you import a commercial quantity of illegal drugs, it is because you have made the personal decision that you are prepared to get rich by destroying our children,” the Georgia Republican said at a fundraiser for Rep. Charlie Norwood (R-GA) in 1995. “I have made the decision that I love our children enough that we will kill you if you do this.”

“The first time we execute 27 or 30 or 35 people at one time, and they go around Colombia and France and Thailand and Mexico, and they say, ‘Hi, would you like to carry some drugs into the U.S.?’ the price of carrying drugs will have gone up dramatically.”

U.S. law already allows the death penalty in the cases of large-scale drug operations — or continuing criminal enterprises — that result in murder.

Gingrich charged in 1994 that 25 percent of President Bill Clinton’s White House staff used drugs, but at the same time admitted that he had also smoked pot 25 years earlier.

“That was a sign we were alive and in graduate school in that era,” he explained.

“See, when I smoked pot it was illegal, but not immoral,” Gingrich reportedly told Wall Street Journal reporter Hilary Stout in 1996. “Now, it is illegal AND immoral. The law didn’t change, only the morality… That’s why you get to go to jail and I don’t.”

Think Singapore is probably mostly Buddhist if anything, being a mixture of Cantonese, Mandarin, Malay, etc. It was the only British colony to be held by the Japanese during the war. After the long occupation had ended, there was a generation of English children that had grown up without any knowledge of their British heritage. It is a member of the commonwealth, I think.
