Two big differences between the LDS in Salt Lake City and the other group.

1. plural marriages, the second group still believes in this and does a work around.
2. The second group felt when J. Smith died the head of the church should go to his son, right of secession.

The second was the break right after J. Smith was killed. The first came much later when that group in SLC wanted to become a state.

Today the LDS church the one in SLC Utah has a membership of over 14 million world wide.
Today the RLDS church the one not in Utah has a membership of about 7000.

This second group is a non factor only to be mentioned in passing, don't confuse the two.

I have a hunch that it may be easy to confuse the FLDS (fundamentalists) who are about 7000 Mormons and who accept plural marriage with the Community of Christ (which used to be the RLDS Mormons) which has about 250,000 members worldwide and which never, as best I can tell, deemed plural marriage proper, at least according to what I have read, including their web site information.

The letters "F" and "R" are similar in shape, and I have found people confusing FLDS with RLDS in the past. While the FLDS bunch may be a small group, a quarter million members does not make for a "non factor" to me.

To check this, look up the Community of Christ on the Internet.

The Community of Christ Auditorium, in Independence, MO, has a 1959 Aeolian Skinner pipe organ with 113 ranks and 6334 pipes. Their Temple, in Independence, has a Casavant Frères pipe organ with 102 ranks and 5685 pipes.

The Community of Christ Temple is open to visitors; one need not be among the "insiders" to get inside it. There are scheduled organ recitals to which the general public is welcome.

Confusing the Community of Christ with the FLDS assemblage might be somewhat comparable to confusing Philadelphia General Meeting Quakers (Religious Society of Friends) with the KKK? I wonder about that.

Apologies are herewith made for my having made somewhat of a study of comparative religion.
