Research on scrotum reduction / removal

Last week I started to do some research on scrotum reduction / total removal, I've found many pictures of the end results on tribe.net and a few dr.'s that have offered the service.

I don't know for sure if I will ever have it done; but it having knowledge is always a good thing.

So I decided to make an inquiry to one that is some what local to me.

    (No names will be mentioned)

The Dr. I found is in the Hollywood area, this should have been my first clue....

My first email was pretty simple and to the point.

"I am a 48 year old who had to have both of his testicles removed In October of 2012 due to atrophy, this was covered by my insurance, I've inquired with them to see if a scrotum reduction or removal is covered by their services, they declined.

Can you please inform me of your fee for the removal of my empty scrotum?

Thank you in advance for your time in this matter."

I then received a reply of.

"Why do you want it removed?
Why not put testicle implants in your scrotum?

    Dr. XXXXXX"

This was my reply to him.

    "Dr. XXXXXX,

I want it removed for personal reasons, and its empty and now serves no purpose.

And as far as implants are concerned, I have no desire for anything artificial in my body."

I then received another reply of

"I need to see some photos. I will then give you
    the cost.

    Sincerely,

    Dr. XXXXXX"

I then sent him the pictures as requested.

I received a final reply of

    "Hi Ken,
The fee for the scrotal reduction will be $8,800. This includes Dr. XXXXXX's surgical fee, operating room and anesthesia. If you have any additional questions, please do not hesitate to contact me.
    Regards,"

$8,800 for this, I think that it can be done for quite a bit less.

    What do you think?

    Ken,

Go and see your urologist. Complain that the scrotum gets irritated, with a rash in warm weather. Complain that it gets tangled up in your clothing. There are codes that a surgeon can use that will make insurance pay for it. I asked my doc, and she knew just what codes to use, and it was approved immediately. My total out of pocket was 40 dollars.

Insurance will NOt cover a procedure that is considered cosmetic, but will cover one to correct a health issue. If your doc needs proof, take a piece of sand paper to the side of your scrotum, and crate a weepy rash like spot. LOL

There is no reason that a urologist can't do the job, and for a whole lot less than you quoted. Trust me I know.

This is a simple out patient job for a plastic surgeon. Just call around and get a quote.

    Ken,
Your live in San Diego. What do you expect? Fly somewhere else to get it done, for a lot less.

Definitely too expensive. Orchiectomy standard rates are usually around $2,500. On the other hand, there is some mention that for some reason scrotum removal is more difficult than orchiectomy. I'm not sure why, but suspect it is really that it is just less common.

You best bet is as discussed above to somehow turn it into a medical necessity. For some reason, insurance will cover almost anything a doctor says is necessary (I guess they're worried about lawsuits if they second-guess a doctor) and doctors make money from doing procedures, so I usually find it doesn't take too much to find a doctor who will recommend a procedure that might not be strictly necessary but sufficient to get covered by insurance.

You may also want to consider body mod artists. At the end of the day it is just skin. There is some trick to it of course, but you can even proceed a bit at a time. I've had pretty good luck with body mod artists who are willing to do such things but aren't totally untrustworthy. And of course if it gets botched by the body mod artist then it will be even easier to get medical coverage to complete the job.

I am back at this one. Proper scrotum removal is NOT just snipping off a flap od skin. There is the inner wall of the scrotum, which divides it in half, there re the two inner sacks and then there is the muscle tissue that makes the scrotum rise and fall. Without removing all that , the result would be a rather lumpy and sloppy mess.

My urologist did the job for me, with great satisfaction on my part. She achieved just what I wanted. Insurance also ended up covering all the costs. It was NOT cheap. The healing was surprisingly easy, and the result is very aesthetically pleasing. Feel free to look at my pics posted in the Personals section.

This is not something I would trust to a piercer/ boy modder or to a plastic surgeon who has not doen it before. My urologist even had told me up front that she had never done it as an elective procdure, but only for cleaning up a trauma wound. She and I were very much on the same wave length so i was comfortable that she could get the result I desired.

Go see several urologists until you find one that is comfortable doing the job, and who you are comfortable with.
