Thread: A subtle irony.

    A subtle irony.

After a visit with my parents in Colorado Springs, sometimes called America's Most Conservative City, I was driving North towards Denver. A few hundred yards before the notorious, and taxpayer paid for, sign
    National Headquarters
    Focus On The Family
    Next Exit
    was another sign,
    Adopt A Highway Program
    Litter Control
    Pikes Peak LGBT Center

I wonder how many people notice the juxtaposition and the irony.

Actually it's "Colorado's" most conservative city. It would fit right in with Kansas right next door but still be not be quite as conservative as they are. Colorado (and New Mexico) are considered the high ground states and are surrounded on all sides. We figure that Dr. Dobson was once a plumber at one time so that is where he decided to establish his headquarters. (Shit flows downhill.)

    People never seem to notice annoying signage. Tennessee has a sign along its east-west Interstate that says;
    Nathan Bedford
    Forrest
    State Park

It is a memorial for Nathan Bedford Forrest, the founder of the KKK.

You are kidding right. Even TN can not be that bad in.

I think the guy also was quite a cavalry officer during the Civil War. I was kind of surprised when I lived in Tennessee that some folks talked about the battle down the road like it was last year, not 120 years ago. I gathered that if you are not from there, it is hard to understand the importance they put on the battles and the players.

You know at some point in time the south has got to come to grips with the fact that they lost the Civil War.

Nathan Bedford Forrest may or may not have been a Klucker. He most assuredly was not the founder of the Klan. He may or may not have been the first president of the TN iteration of the KKK. History is very dim on this point.
