Finally Castrated!! Need advice on HRT etc.

    Hello all,

After 12 years of wanting it done (since I was 13), on Friday (1/6) I was finally castrated. Was done in Europe by a medical professional, looking for a side source of income in these tough economic times. Surgery went well and was fairly uneventful, with eunuchdom being achieved at 2pm. That moment will be etched in my mind forever. So far, recovery has been ok - felt okay enough yesterday to endure a 2 hour coach trip, 2 hour train trip and 2 hour flight home, although that was helped by a healthy amount of painkillers. Woken up today after long sleep, and most abdominal pain is gone, although Sac is fairly swollen still. Actually feel well enough to join my friends at their Jubilee Celebrations. I'm hoping that the fact that I'm young is meaning that recovery is going to be quick and fairly uneventful - reading other posts, I certainly seem to be fareing better than many did. I actually feel well enough to masturbate, and have done a couple of times since being cut.

Why did I have it done? I've thought about it for a long time, and trialed chemical castration drugs. In the end, I guess it comes down to Body Integrity Disorder. I hated my balls, I felt they didn't belong to me, were ugly and shouldn't be there. Now they are gone, I feel alot better. I guess I could say I feel complete, and have the body I've always wanted. This brings me onto the point of my post and request for help - getting Hormone Replacement Therapy in the UK. I know from my trials of chemical castration, that I don't want all the effects of being a eunuch. In effect, I wish to be male, but without balls, still having a sex drive, but being in control of my hormonal levels, and being able to adjust levels as my circumstances require. I definately don't want weight gain, tits, loss of strength etc.

Thus its a given, that as soon as I've healed, I need to get started on HRT. In the UK we are lucky enough to have state provided healthcare, which despite its flaws, is pretty decent. Ideally, I'd like to get TRT prescribed by a doctor. Can people, particularly UK resident eunuchs, provide me with advice on the best way to go about this without getting sectioned/having to go to a shrink? I'm moving to London to start a new job in September, and could in theory wait till then, using intenet bought meds until then? My reasoning for this is that I currently live in a small town (near Manchester though) and I doubt my GP would be receptive. In London, I'm sure they've seen it all before? In terms of internet bought meds, which gels or tablets are the best?

Apologies for so many questions, but its the start of a new journey, one that I've waited a long time to get started, but am looking forward to

Edit - Admins - is there any way to change my user ID? The term "Manc Wannabe" seems somewhat "dated" now lol.

I just commented on Androgel (HRT) in another post, but a quick response (based upon my experience) is:
Start with prescribed dose of HRT and take that for 90 days.
If you don't like the effect, decrease dose 25% and do that for 90 days
If you don't like the effect, decrease another 25% and do that for 90 days.
It took my body time to adjust to each dose level.
Then, once you find your personal dose you can further fine tune it, like different amounts every other day, just taking it on alternating days, or whatever.
Being able to control how much T your body gets, and when, I found to be the absolute best part of having low natural T.

    manc-wannabe,

Now that you have achieved your goal, getting HRT will be the easy part. Quite frankly, go to a clinic, if your GP is not the type to be understanding, and if asked how this occured claim that an accident on holiday cost you your balls. If you actually were injured while travelling, the liklihood of having a mountain of documentation is slim.

So make an appointment to see a doctor, and say that you lost them, and need to get HRT.

My personal experience is that the best of the gels is the standard dose androgel. It provides the most even delivery. In the US, it is pricey, without insurance, but very manageable with. Not too up on how perscriptions are dealt with in the UK. I know several people who have great success with cyronate injections when done on a small weekly dose rather than using a bi-weekly dose. With all of them though, you must watch your levels. Regular blood tests will confirm that it is correct. Usually once a good level is found, it will be a stable need. It does require some trial and error to get it right though.

Again, congrats on reaching your goal. If you want to have a more involved discussion on my personal journy, I am happy to share, just PM me.

I'll be happy to change your ID - send me a PM.

Can't help regarding getting HRT in UK. Here in the US, I made up a story, they bought it, and my insurancve covers.

I was castrated seven months and decided to forego HRT. I am taking calcium tablets and have had minimum hot flashes. Suggest you wait a while until you are healed and get your first "flashes" or two and then decide a course of action. Since I am a bottom, erections are not importan

Re: Finally Castrated!! Need advice on HRT etc.

Your desire and reason is nearly identical to why I had it done a bit over 6 years ago.

I went to see a doctor about 1-month after and frankly they couldn't have been less concerned about why I lacked testicles other than the fact they needed something to write on their paperwork. My excuse was I had them removed for chronic testicular torsion episodes and that I found a sympathetic doctor to remove them and for me it wasn't a problem because I never planned to have children. After looking at me like I was insane (for about 2 seconds) they examined me to make sure I really didn't have testicles and then wrote a prescription.

This was in the US, and in a VERY conservative part of the US where I was living at the time.

The important thing for you to do is when you do come up with the "why" that you're going to tell the doctor, make sure you stick with it and your story is consistent... you're going to be using it for life. Doctors tend to share this information when you see others related to the condition. You want all that to line up.

The torsion excuse has worked very well for me.

Feel free to PM me with your questions. I'd be happy to talk to you personally about it.

And before I forget... Congrats on joining our little club. It's always nice to hear that I have a new eunuch brother.

Congratulations on your new life as a eunch, my castration was on 26th August 2011. My endocrinoligist put me om HRT (Estradot 50) to contol the hot

flushes, but it only slighty reduced them, on my next visit to him he did a blood test and increased the Estradot to 75 and that is work perfectly.

These days I live as a very happy woman

I've been a eunuch since 2008 and am on 1cc (200mg) Testosterone Cypionate IM per week, as well as 1mg Arimidex to keep down the estrogen conversion. Works well for me.

Re: Finally Castrated!! Need advice on HRT etc.

    Hello again,

Many thanks for the PM's and replies on here. I'll reply in more detail when I've got time. Quick Update - pain has totally gone, everything seems to be healing quite uneventufully. 2 distinct hard lumps in my sac, but I believe these are the cords healing up. I've been back at work since Tuesday, and was celebrating the Jubilee with friends on Sunday and Monday. My head probably hurt more than my groin on Monday and Tuesday morning

I'm going to go to my local GP in a couple of weeks, once healing is near done. As of yet, I'm not feeling much effect - libido is still present, albiet a bit less urgent than it was before. Before castration, being a typical young male, my sex drive was very high, and whilst I didn't think it was a problem per se, it is nice to not to be thinking about sex every 5 seconds. Its somewhere more like every 10 seconds now lol. If I see a good looking guy in the street, I still notice, and fancy getting with him lol, but I don't feel the urgency. If I get this kind of effect on HRT, it will be a welcome improvement. I'm starting a graduate-level job in September in London, and the increased ability to focus on my work will be welcome

Thanks for the kind words everyone, I look forward to being a more active member of this forum

Re: Finally Castrated!! Need advice on HRT etc.

Just a quick update - it's been over 2 weeks since my Op. Healing is going fine, all bruising is gone, swelling is pretty much gone, just two small hard lumps at the end of each cord. They are getting smaller each day. The first stitch dissolved today, to my slight panic, but all seems ok - the skin under the stitch is tender and pink, but looks nearly healed shut.

As to the effects, they have to a large extent kicked in. Sex drive is existent but a lot less than it was before. Errections only happen when I masturbate, morning wood is all but gone. It occured to me this morning that its been 3 days since I wanked, and tbh, I didn't really care lol. I was in Manchesters Gay Village yesterday, and I noticed the cute boys, and still wanted them, but as I said before, the urgency is gone. My best mate, who knows I've been castrated, has commented that my intellectual side has come out a lot more. Apparantly, pre castration, around half of our conversations were about sex. Its now around 10% and I'm taking about politics, history, current affairs etc alot more. As far as I'm concerned, thats a very good side effect. I've had a few hot flashes, nothing unmanageable, but noticeable, especially as I can't attribute it to the weather at the moment (our "summer" is currently around 15C and raining...). No tiredness or weight gain as of yet.

I'm going to go the GP in around a week and get HRT started, though I'm tempted to ask her to start me on the medium dose, not top dose. The reason I'm going to use (and it is true), is that I'm prone to acne. Its cleared up a fair bit since being cut - it seems that castration is a more effective cure than antibiotics, creams etc. Thus, I don't want to go on too high a dose and bring the acne back. I want enough to have a sex drive, but not enough to remove these positive effects that I've noticed since being cut. So far, I'm happy with my decision, and I would not take my balls back even if possible

Congratulations. Glad to read you're healing well. Take your time finding an acceptable level of HRT; the body takes a while to adjust to changes in dosage and unfortunately it's not as fast as switching a light on and off! Watch out for depression kicking in as your T level drops, although a low dose of HRT may well be enough to keep it at bay, as well as other nasties like osteoporosis and gynocomastia.

All good wishes, and thanks for sharing your experience.

I want to second Eunuch2001's observations. Although I already had very low T before my surgery and was coping with it fairly well without HRT, after a couple of weeks I experienced a renewed case of lethargy and depression as my level went down further. I was even saying to myself that I was depressed. A low dosage of HRT was able to eventually help alleviate these issues. It can take some time for the body to readjust after an orchiectomy, even with HRT. Mine still is as I reach the two-month mark, although my energy level is much greater, with no depression anymore and I feel much better now.

Hi fellow person from England. Your GP is the first step I dont think he will just give you the meds but you can try he will send you to see the hormone people better known as the endocrinology department, mines great down here in the west midlands. Try and get some Testim gel I use just under half a tube a day which keeps my Tin the very low levels it works well for me. Any questions please feel free to ask.
Orchiectomy performed 01/2012 and I love it.
