Mitt Romney's 'Better Amercia' app spawns internet meme

Web users have uploaded their versions of images made with Mitt's app to make fun of the mistake.
White House hopeful Mitt Romney has meticulously spelled out his vision for a better America while on the campaign trail this year. But in his new mobile app? Not so much.

The "With Mitt " application for the iPhone allows users to express support for the recently anointed Republican flagbearer by personalising a photo with an overlaid Romney slogan. Trouble is, one of the slogans had a howler of a spelling mistake: "A Better Amercia."

Members of the proofreading public recently made the discovery and it went viral on Twitter late on Tuesday in the US, with people mockingly tweeting photos showing the "Amercia" message.

"Some poor app designer is getting strapped in a cage on the top of a car and driven across country tonight. #amercia," one user tweeted, in a reference to Romney's hard-to-live-down decision years ago to strap the family dog in its carrier on the roof of the car during a vacation.

Early on Wednesday, the app, promoted by official campaign website mittromney.com, had yet to be corrected, and new downloads contained the spelling error.

"Mistakes happen," Romney campaign spokeswoman Andrea Saul said on MSNBC.

There are literally hundreds of images like this one making fun of the app.
"I don't think any voter cares about a typo at the end of the day," she said, adding that an update had been sent to Apple.

Hours later, the company's app store was offering an updated version with the embarrassing mistake corrected.

The "With Mitt" download page offered version 1.0.1 which it said makes "bug fixes" to the app, but the change of note was the removal of the offending phrase.

How do you spell America? Not like how it appears in Mitt's app.
The 2012 campaign has had its share of spelling gaffes.

Former Utah governor Jon Huntsman's presidential bid got off to a rocky start when his team handed out press passes at the inaugural campaign event for "John Huntsman", unnecessarily inserting an H into his first name.

And in March, red-faced aides to former senator Rick Santorum were forced to resend a corrected public schedule to reporters after they inadvertently mailed out "Santorum's Pubic Schedule".

Yes, somebody did not catch it, but Mitt will pay for it, only because those that would not vote for him in the first place will add that to the list of why they wont. However it does make for good press.

It makes you wonder though, it seems like every week someone or Mitt himself shoots himself in the foot, not a week goes by that there is not something new to laugh at in his campaign. I have yet to figure out what he stands for, its either everything or nothing or something in-between. The only thing I have herd him promise is to get the economy going again, what I have not herd is HOW? You see with out that its just pissing in the wind.

And that mac is why you keep voting for the republicans, you never listen to the other side and only hear what you want to.

I listen to everything the republicans are saying, I listen very carefully because it usually has a direct effect on my life. You must watch them ever second and look under the covers at everything they do.

Mac I can tell you why we vote different, I look up the history of each and everybody running, both sides, I want to know what makes the person tick, it gives me an idea how they would handle problems that will come their way. I don't listen to the news right or left for this process I do my own research.

If the only thing you herd from Obama was the one word 'CHANGE' then you did not listen to him at all, so much for an informed voter.

There was little attention paid to freedom of religion or separation of church and state then. It was atrocious really. Makes you really wonder about the intentions of the so called christians who were ousting the Mormons. A true religious war, right here in America. Or is that Amercia.

I would say NO, that is just not what Mormons believe today anymore then non-Mormons do.

Most right wing fundamentalists still think of the LDS as a cult but if you remember back to the 1960's they did the same things to JFK.
