Imagine That: Man Who Stole Gas From Police Cruiser Caught After Posting Photo of Theft On Facebook

A Mensa reject named Michael Baker was arrested earlier this week after he posted a photo on Facebook of himself siphoning gas from a cop car.

The 20-year-old's photo went viral in his hometown of Jenkins, Kentucky, and eventually reached the local police department, which sent officers to pay Baker a visit Monday evening.

He was charged with theft by unlawful taking and released. His arraignment was scheduled for today.

Shortly after he left jail yesterday, Baker posted a status update on his Facebook page. "yea lol i went too jail over facebook," he wrote. Referring to the now-removed photo, Baker told a friend, "yea lol u would just have to seen it it was funny as hell tho."

Re: Dumb Criminals - Siphoning gas from a patrol car stunt

When I was in high school, a friend of mine would give me a ride home most days. To pay him back, I would help him siphon gas from parked cars a couple nights a week. One car in a nice neighborhood was always parked off to the side of the house and behind the house were some woods, so it was fairly secluded. We had hit that car several times before, and that night we were hitting it again.

The front light to the house came on. We ran for his car, threw the gas can into his trunk and jumped into the car, closing the doors. He reached for the key. No Key.

No wanting to have his gas stolen, he had a gas cap that locked. His keys were in the gas cap. Fuck!

I jumped out of the car and ran for the woods. He stayed behind - it was his car - hoping to talk his way out of it. I hid in the bushes watching.

The car we'd been stealing gas from was a unmarked cop car, and the guy that came out of the house was a police detective. He knew we'd hit the car before. What astounded him most was that my friend was stealing gas but he had a lock on his own gas cap. He took my friend to jail, and I ran all the way home, about three miles.

They let my friend out the next day and never did anything else to him; but we never hit that car again.

I wish I could say that was the only stupid thing I did as a kid.

That and gas was only 15cents a gal then too.

Funny, yep I too did a couple things as a kid I did not tell my kids about.

He who would trade liberty for some temporary security, deserves neither liberty nor security.

I think it was about a quarter a gallon, but the after school job I had about that time only paid 50 cents an hour, so it went both ways.

Cool story, Slammr. I bet you guys laughed your asses off after.

Re the original post; I love how the guy posted how he went "too" jail "over facebook". Talk about double-fail... it wasn't Facebooks fault, it was his own, TWICE... doing the deed, then being retarted enough to POST it on a public website.

I fear for this man. No; I fear for his children. Seriously.

However, the whole thing does drive home to me the following equation:

(I don't know how to type superscript or other math functions so bear with me)

    S(increasing) X T(increasing) = Tr

Where S=stupidity and T= technology and Tr = TROUBLE. The dumber you is, and the more high-falutin' your tech access, the more trouble you will create for yourself.
    I apologize for my avatar.
