    Re: Brokeback Mountain

Punkypink, why are you ALWAYS trying to pick a fight? Frankly, I am sick of it.

I made an innocent post, stating some of my opinions on the movie "Brokeback Mountain." If I had been more articulate and had better recollection of the movie I would have probably written something like what Tugon just posted, but I didn't. Instead, I briefly addresses the scene that has nearly defined the movie for some people; the "two cowboys kissing scene," something that Mac and Ken had previously mentioned. It is simply a fact, most men and women, whether they are straight, bi or gay, are a little bit shocked to see two men kiss, and most men and women, whether they are straight, bi or gay, find beauty in seeing two women kissing, it might not be "fair" in your opinion, but it is not "crass" either, it is just the way things are.

I make no apologies for finding beauty in what I think is beautiful, and I bitterly resent your implication that it is "crass." I do not care for most "porn" movies as they have absolutely no plot.

I made clear in my first post that my biggest problem with the movie was "no happy ending," just too much sadness, too much unfulfilled love. I suppose it would have been "crass" if I had written/produced/directed the movie, but I would have had the two lovers off for at least a year together in some tropical paradise. UNhappy endings are ok sometimes, but the whole movie was just sad with more sad, then it got worse and worse, climaxing in a crescendo of grief... It was OK, I suppose a realistic look at an ill fated same sex love in a time and place where such things were just too taboo, but honestly, the "kleenex meter" is pegged throughout this misery-fest movie.

Before this thread gets off topic let me just add one thought,

No matter what movie, some people will like it some wont, its the way of things, its not right or wrong it just is, live with it.

Now talk about the movie, not at each other.....

I agree with you. I can easily accept 2 female lovers but when it comes two 2 male lovers it is a totally different matter.

Gee I thought I'd point out the obvious that the key focus of brokeback mountain as a movie was the storyline, not it's sex scenes. And actually it was also meant as much for anyone who'd mentioned the kissing scene wasn't "doing it" for them, rather than any one specific individual. As River says in an IM, don't be thin skinned and don't take everything personally. If someone is frank and make no apologies in finding what they find beautiful, then the last thing to do is to take me to task for being equally frank.

I don't know why people are shocked to see 2 men kiss personally. Christina Aguilera's MTV for "Beautiful" had 2 men kissing and I thought that was so beautiful it brought a tear to my eye, and as a lesbian I am even more into women kissing than men kissing than just about ANY of you, so I fail to see why it's shocking. As for straight guys finding such a scene "not doing it" for them, fair enough, but that really wasn't the point of the movie, so it seems irrelevant to mention it. This reminds me of a conversation with an asshole I once had, who said that lesbians are hot while gay men should be shot. Granted his was a far more extreme manifestation of heterosexism, but hey, if we're talking about principles.... then it seems superfluous to mention that the kissing scene of brokeback mountain wasn't giving someone watching the movie a raging hardon either.

Now no matter how mild a display of male heterosexist attitudes might be, I'm not entirely sure those sort of prejudiced sentiments belong in a place as progressive as the EA. That is all.

I agree with Emily on this one, and why should any of us care, if some of you don't like to see guys kissing? I have no problem watching anyone kiss, girls kissing girls, guys kissing guys, or guys and girls kissing. If you don't like it, close your fucking eyes. You don't have to share your bigotry with us, telling us how sick it is for guys to kiss, because that's what you're saying.

    Kudos to you, Emily.

    Re: Brokeback Mountain

According to Merriam-Webster's Dictionary, a bigot is defined as "one who regards or treats the members of a group with intolerance and hatred."

I see no intolerance or hatred expressed by anyone here, despite the accusations by some.

However, since you guys can't accept the opinions of others without resorting to name calling, I'm going to ask River to close this thread.
