Well at least they had the good grace and manners to do each other, rather than the sheep. Good movie, often disheartening, but realistic to the time it portrayed.

Well? I grew up in Wyoming knowing I was transsexual. I could relate to the film. It's dangerous to be different there. A respected police veteran of 16 years came out of the closet as transsexual and was fired. She was eventually forced out of the state because no one would give her a job or rent her a house. She lost her house when her wife divorced her as well as taking the children and making sure he did not get visitation. I understood that what I was had to remain a secret, from everyone!!!!!!!!
That film was a great film and I am really glad it was made. It might not be what people want to think, but there are just as many gay cowboys as any other manly job. In fact I used to know the guy who started the gay rodeo in Denver Colorado, until he passed. There are lots of gay cowboys, not just a few. Lots of them. Same with Jet fighter pilots or any other "manly" jobs. You will always find gay men in these jobs. When it comes to work? Men are men. What they do sexually is completely irrelevant. There are no jobs reserved for "non-gay" men. Those days are over or at least nearing an end. It's within site to see gay people not be discriminated against as a civil right.

I saw the movie some time ago, and I liked it but not really. I suppose that in order to be realistic it was the way it was, that is to say, NO HAPPY ENDING. Even so, I don't like NO HAPPY ENDING.
The "cowboys kissing scene" that has raised so much dust did not really bother me that much, but I have to say just like Mac, I LIKE to see women kissing, men kissing just doesn't do it for me. It does not bother me, but it just does not "send me" either.
One scene that DID REALLY get "under my skin" was when one of the cowboys went to see the parents of his boyfriend after his boyfriend had died, sorry I cannot remember the names of the cowboys. Anyway, the cowboy meets the parents of his late boyfriend for the first time, and his boyfriend's mother seemed OK, she was understanding, but his boyfriend's father was such a total asshole. I SOOOOOOOO WANTED to see that grouchy, cruel old homophobe get his teeth knocked in, I would have liked the movie a lot more if that cruel jerk had got his comeuppance.
I don't think the point of brokeback mountain is to get scenes that "does it" for you. You want something that crass, watch porn.
I saw the movie a number of years ago and thought it was good, a little sad and needed to be said about many relationships between men that might never end in sex but are same-sex relationships anyway.

What a tragic love story. As sad as the tragedy of Romeo and Juliet. A young man forced to witness the results of a hate crime and the results he can never have the relationship that might have made him happiest. He meets Jack Twist and it all begins.
The scene where the work ended early and Ennis was angry as he said by less pay but of course it was the early separation. After he and Jack parted and the heartbreak hit him and brought him to his knees you could feel his pain. Oh and when they reconnected and all that pent up passion.
Jack's tears after he learns that just because Ennis is divorced he still is not free. Anyone who has ever driven a long distance because your love has sent you home can so easily relate. Jack goes back to his unhappy marriage after a sidetrip to Mexico. Ennis tries to date but to no avail. Two men that should be together are apart and miserable.
When Ennis gets word that Jack is dead and calls his wife we see that no matter the reason for Jack's death Ennis can only see his fears for Jack. Next Ennis visits Jack's parents and the acceptance and kindness in Jack's mother's eyes is almost too sad. You could tell they both shared an incredible sense of loss.
When he finds his long lost shirt on the same hanger with Jack's and he rolls them up and Jack's mom puts them in a bag for him your heart breaks. Then at home in a time of loneliness he looks at the shirts and straightens the post card. So much sorrow and a lifetime of memories.
Brokeback Mountain is so much more than two cowboys.
