my concern is the love of others
I just watched that video, and I am not so sure it is for real... I mean, it is like someone has staged the whole thing to get back at the GOP for that beehive "child prostitute" video <- and that one was staged too.
Have you ever lived in the south?
I lived in St Louis, a kind of northern city in a southern state. When I lived there the local TV station went out with two people, one white one black, to rent an apartment in a big complex. The Black guy was dressed in a nice, showed he had a good paying long term job, he was told on camera (it was hidden) that they did not have any places open at this time but would keep his application on file. When he left the white guy came in dressed in shorts, t-shirt, asked if he could make payments to get the first last and security deposit, and when they person turned away took a picture of the black guys app in the trash. They said no problem they had several places for him to pick from.
When aired the apartment complex called foul.
I herd the first and hopefully the last ever MLKing joke from some white guy that looked just like one of the guys in the video, yes there is still white trash out there alive and well living in the south, Mississippi seems to be their home base.
At work I caught a snide remark to a fellow worker, it was tword a fellow worker, he was a Cuban NOT White, the guy making the comment was an ass but what got him fired is that his boss was black and he just could not keep his mouth shut.
I could go on but yes the bigots of the south are alive and well and just as hateful as ever.

A-1 and Slammr,
I do not agree with those people, their politics, their racism or their bigotry. However, I do not agree with responding to them in the same manner with wich they behave. I also lived in the south, northern Florida, for a few years. We were "DAMN YANKEE". We never treated southerners that way in Michigan.
yep and nothing has changed and Florida is not as bad as some of the southern states.

This video was on Real Time with Bill Maher last Friday. It is supposed to be real. The person who made the film said they had to leave most of the interviews on the cutting room floor as they were too offensive to air. Also that there were a lot more people with missing teeth and they just chose to include the one.
The point was to find out why they vote against their own economic interests year after year. It wasn't claiming to be every person from Mississippi, and I'm sure there are wonderful people there as well as the hard core conservatives shown. Every state has people from the Right, Center, and Left.
I really can't stand the political boards anymore, I wish there was a way to opt-out of seeing them altogether...*SIGH*
The other half dropped Friday night. They had the same person make another video closer to home (Manhattan). This round we got folks waiting around to get food stamps and whatever financial aide is available for free from the Government, They all looked rather young and healthy. One guy said it is hard to get a job when you have a recrd. 1 hguy had 4 babies with 4 women....
I don't remember if they were ALL in NYC but they were mostly African Americans.
My conclusion is that both ends need to meet in the middle sooner than later!!!
I lived in Knoxville, Tennessee for six years and that always cracked me up when one of them would say the south was going to rise again. I would laugh and say "and do what? get their asses beat down and all their property taken away from them again?". 150 years later and the south still has not recovered from the war and most of them would do it again. I don't know what's going to happen to this country, but I don't it can't stay like it is. This polarisation on religiosity is going to either end up in totalitarianism or some kind of progressive movement. But it will not stay like this.

Elizabeth, I would agree and it gets worse every year. Sometimes I think the USA should just cut some of those states from the union and let them go their own way, I think if faced with that decision they just might do it, at least for a while.

I lived in Knoxville, TN thru most of the 70s. In one sense I would agree with you. However, when you look on the larger scale, I am not sure that it is not everywhere. My brother lives in LA. We were once talkiing about something and I made the point that he and I were different because he had a need to hate (blacks, Mexicans, now Muslims). The comment stopped him in his tracks. He actually thought for a few minutes and then said that he agreed. That was also an AHA momment for me. Once I recognized that in him and put it into words, it became something that I was aware of and see a lot in peoples everywhere.
I agree that racism is alive and well here in southern California. Not so much in the younger generation, but when I lived in the San Fernando Valley in the 70's and 80's it was prominently white inside the 405 and 101 freeways. However, starting in the late 80's and continuing into the 90's, the white people moved to Orange County, Simi Valley, Thousand Oaks, Palmdale and other areas that minorities mostly could not afford. Basically making those white refuges within the state. If you ever watched the show Tosh.0 you will understand the racism and bigotry of the upper middle class white people in southern California. When these people are not in the company of minorities they rant on with their bigoted remarks, but in public pretend to not be racist or bigoted. Everyone knows about it, but not many ever stand up to it.
