Folks have run that search before in this thread....
There are enough experience reports already but I'll add mine; I found the good Doctor to be very professional and quite genial in his manor. I suspect that part of the issue with phone calls is his attempt to excercise some care with the individuals who call in order to do a bit of screening for those who are serious? He is much more outgoing and provides more information as well as talking to you in order to make sure you understand the implications of what is about to happen when you meet him in person.
Everyone is different but I was suprised at the amount of swelling involved even though I used the ice packs for most of the day following the surgery and the next morning before I left. The black and blue swelling got worse about 3 to 4 days post-op as mentioned in the handout he gives you. I did spend about 11 hours sitting around in airports and airplanes the next day which may or may not have contributed to the amount of swelling I had and those of you who are considering the procedure, may want to consider adding a day to the three days he now recommends since using ice on the area only works for the first 24 to 48 hours, adding an additional day of using ice packs on the area may be beneficial in controlling the swelling.
Since he's now putting in Penrose drains, you may want to consider doing what I did which was using Depends disposable underwear rather than the jock strap or tight fitting underwear as there is quite a bit of drainage those first couple of days. I also used a lady's light control incontinence panty which has a much wider crotch area that is also waterproof, over the top of the Depends to apply a bit of pressure and stabilize the area, worked quite well.
I'm a week post-op now and the swelling has gone down substantially but it's still uncomfortable, some of my experience is also probably due to my age which is 61 and I no doubt am going to take longer to heal than a younger person. For those considering using Dr. Arnkoff, he's the real deal and I would recommend him if you're considering the procedure.
Thanks to those continuing to post their experiences. The thing that stands out to me, and what I want to point out to others, is how ultimately this is still a serious operation requiring serious recovery time (for most anyway). Looks like even few weeks afterwards people are nursing stitches and swelling, and the draining seems to go on for a while. And that is when it goes well. My point is that this is why a do it yourself castration is just so naive ... your body doesn't like intrusion or losing a part of itself, no matter how little you care about having the body part! Please take care everyone.
Did Dr. Arnkoff raise his fee to $2300 in April?
And how many patients will he schedule on a Saturday morning?
any castration doctors in NYC ?
Dr in Georgia does not require letters. Drs in GA and FL do castrations as outpatient surgery, one in hospital and one in his own surgical suite.
what is the recovery time after this surgery?
Is there anything the patient has to do after the surgery is done? Like would the patient have to visit the doctor a couple of more times to make sure the surgery went right?
I was out trimming hedges less than a week later. Stitches started coming out after two weeks. Cord ends still tender after a month, but they were pulled very taut before cutting and were the last remaining swelling to go away.

One follow up a day or so later to make sure all is OK (no bleeding for instance) should do it. You would want to have the Dr's phone number with you and want to stay in the area for a day or so also.
Dr. Arnkoff wants you to confirm the appointment three days in advance, get into town the night before, contact him when you're there and stay in town until at least the day after the surgery.
Everyone is different and I experienced more swelling and discomfort than I expected. Dr. Arnkoff says the area should be packed with ice for the first 24 to 48 hours, after that it is not effective. I spent about 11 hours in airports and airplanes the next day after checking out of the hotel, I'd done the ice packs that morning. Whether or not the whole extra day of ice packs would have helped is something I can only speculate on, but it might be worth considering staying the extra day since it doesn't really add much to the total price of the procedure and travel expenses.
I sent an inquiry to his website and have not got a reply. I have tried his phone number and only get the answering machine. How hard is he to consult with?![]()
Thanks to Sduyck 2000 and all who has contributed, your comments and info. has been most help full, now I guess it just getting the nerve to make the call.
