    Oops, Obama did it again.

"WASHINGTON (AP) — The Obama administration Friday pulled the plug on a major program in the president's signature health overhaul law — a long-term care insurance plan dogged from the beginning by doubts over its financial solvency."

Can the President spell, "s-u-r-r-e-n-d-e-r"? Again!

Jeepers, MOI, Long Term Care is obscenely expensive. I'm not sure what the administration is going to do but no one guaranteed the Affordable Care Act would be perfect from the instant it was signed into law.

Jeepers Dave. Are you an advocate of
"Let them die?" I am surprised.

No, I have a mother who will be 89 in a month and I don't know what will happen if she isn't able to take care of herself anymore.
Hell, I'm 61 and paraplegic like I can take of of myself and that's it.
What am I going to do besides deny the obvious? I don't know.
And there's no discussion to be had. Them's the facts.
I'll make it work. I always do.

Chinese Jews returning to the Holy Land.
Will the Rapture be within out life time?

    If we survive 12/21/12

Chinese Jews feel more at home in Israel
Descendants of Persian traders in Kaifeng, China, move to Israel with the help of a religious group and finally learn Jewish rules and traditions.
    "Reporting from Jerusalem and Beijing—
As a child growing up in Kaifeng in central China, Jin Jin was constantly reminded of her unusual heritage.
"We weren't supposed to eat pork, our graves were different from other people, and we had a mezuza on our door," said the 25-year-old, referring to the prayer scroll affixed to doorways of Jewish homes."
"Her father told her of a faraway land called Israel that he said was her rightful home, she recalls. But "we didn't know anything about daily prayers or the weekly reading of the Torah."
    etc.

Too much, stranger then truth but is,, news today.
    Had to share this one.

    http://news.yahoo.com/spanish-tvs-te...010725069.html
Spanish TV's Telemundo to hold GOP primary debate
". . .Top Telemundo news anchor Jose Diaz-Balart will host the debate, which will be broadcast in Spanish.. . ."

How are "they" going to address; "who is tougher on illegals" per the participants' history and statements on record.

There's an argument to be had that smokers cost the health care system less than non-smokers for exactly this reason. While it may cost 'the system' to treat them for asthma/cancer/etc, they tend to die young and so avoid the cost of a decade's worth (or more) of Long Term Care.
I believe someone could organize a protest against homophones without people figuring out what the word really means.

oh come on, my eyeballs rolled to the sky at that one.
We aren't going to start encouraging people into unhealthy habits because its cheaper they die, are we?
    Tell me you're not serious.

Oh no, I'm not saying we should encourage people to smoke, or that smoking is a good thing (haven't had a cig in over a year, myself.) Just that an argument can be made that they might wind up saving the system money. Similarly, I've heard it said that this is likely to be the first generation that doesn't live as long as their parents, which may also save the system money in the long run. This also doesn't mean that I'm encouraging people to eat like crap and neglect their health.

If anything, think of it as a comment on 'truth in taxation' (regarding the purpose of tobacco taxes), and one possible reason as to why anti-smoking and 'healthy eating/living' programs have seemed half-assed or ineffective. Personally, I would love to see all smokers give up the habit, and see everyone eating and living healthy. Could the government give up the tobacco tax revenue, and could the economy survive the collapse of the junk food/fast food industries though? I can already picture the 'McDonalds Bailout Program'.

I helped take care of my great grandparents on one side of my family near the end of their lives, My great grand mother died at 89 my great grandfather the day before his 95th birthday. I watched as both of them lost more and more of who they were, not just the body but for me far more importantly the mind. For the last 5 months of his life my grandfather couldn't recognize any of us, you could tell he had some idea who we were but he could not put it together in his head. That lack of recognition was the most painful thing I have ever witnessed or experienced and I have walked in some very dark private hells.

Currently my grandmother is experiencing the onset of Alzheimer's you wouldn't notice anything unless you know her well, she is slowly losing her mind it's not pleasant to watch. I know it will not be easy to take care of her when she becomes unable to take care of herself, she is physically healthy as a horse and will likely live for a long time. There is no way I or anyone else in my family would be willing to put her in a nursing home but I don't know if I can take watching that again.

By comparison I watched my step dads father die of cancer (lifetime smoker) and as lingering and painful as that was at least he knew when he died that he was surrounded by those that loved him, and we knew that he was comforted by that.

I was close to all of them, and probably closest to my great grandfather on the other hand I lived within a 5 minute walk of my step dads parents for years and spent a lot of time with them.

Just my two cents on death by smoking versus death by old age.

Not everyone develops Alzheimer's or becomes senile in their old age. My uncle just died at 98, and his mind was still sharp. I don't know of any cases of Alzheimer's in my family, and many have lived into their 90s. I'm older than my father was when he died, but he was an alcoholic and died of cirrhosis of the liver. I'm not exactly sure what you're trying to say, but my dad, who smoked and drank died at 70. His brother, who did neither, died at 98.
There is nothing good or bad but thinking makes it so.

Everyone in my family, on both sides, who didn't die young has not just the ones who i mentioned.

So that's my take on death by old age.

Its a crap shoot, genetics plays a large part in how long you live, life stile plays the other side of that same coin. Relatives on both sides of my family have lived well into their 80's and 90's, some even into the century mark, yet my mother died at 63 of cancer, my brother at 50 of cancer, he was a long time heavy smoker, my father died at 85 and was still dancing 5 nights a week and golfing every day to within 6 weeks of his death, other brother is 77 and is much like my father. My cousin died at 20 from a rocket attack while he was in Viet Nam.

Like I said, its a crap shoot.

Scientists correct sickle cell disease in mice.

Consider we have a vaccine against AIDS for cats. Likewise Feline Leukemia.
When are "they" going to get around to taking care of us, Homo s., people?
