I am betting on the latter. By loosing "Congress", Obama can lead more aggressively. It won't be like warring on one's own party.
It sure seems like Barack kept Rahm Emanuel on a tight leash and Rahm was suppose to get himself fired for being abrupt and aggressive were the predictions on Rahm's Chief of Staff longevity.

Pelosi was reelected as beloved in her congressional district. Hopefully the Dems will replace her as their leader.

Reid because the Republicans failed to put up an acceptable candidate. The GOP blew this one off, as they did the Califo-nia Governor and Senate race.
