    So beautiful, as I remember.
    A bit early, eh?

Still in the mid high seventies along the middle part of the Southern Califo-nia coast. Devil winds have subsided.
For those who must ski, a resort has opened with man made snow in the nearby mountains.

Snow shovel is still in the shed but I will get it out Monday when the snow is gone, It is early and its been warm all week, Wed was in the 60s so the ground is still warm and the snow even though we have had 6 to 11 inches it will be gone in a couple days. A real wet snow, the next one will be a dry snow and the ground will be cold and it will stick and stay.

Stuff was so wet and heavy it clogged up both of the snowblowers - even the 8 HP unit. But had to clear the walks and 130 feet of driveway. Of course the city will just plow in the end of the driveway, will be ice by then, and will need a pick axe to bust it up. Damn - maybe I should rent.

When I lived in the Milwaukee area for two years, I was impressed at the speed with which roads were cleared. Freeways and arterial highways were always open and secondary roads within a day. I had a rural property in Mequon when it was, rural - - and paid a snow plow guy to take care of the driveway.
    Makes me wonder,
why can't Califo-nia keep the Grapevine continuously open? This major highway regularly closes for snow days. Not enough snowploughs?

    Re: There's Always The Weather

Moi, how many days a year is the grapevine closed? 5 days, 10 days? How much does it cost for a truck to remove that snow? Cost of driver? etc.?

Is it worth it for you to put in a generator for your house if the electric goes out a couple days every 4 or 5 years? Maybe.

The only road they keep open in the north is Donner Pass, all the others close for the winter, there is good reason for this.

So Moi, do you really think its cost effective to have a dozen trucks standing by that you use 3 or 4 days a year? It would take at least a dozen trucks, maybe more.

Also remembering that the grapevine is a steep road, one that trucks have run offs in case there brakes get to hot and fail. Do you really want those trucks going down the grapevine with chains on, in the snow and ice, that is a dangerous road even when the conditions are good, you want to keep it open in the winter with snow and ice?

    Have you thought this through?

Last February's snow strikes one more time:
The tree guys just left. They were here from 8am till 4pm. What a siege that was all day. Noise, five guys named "Say what?" and more noise, cold and rain and more noise. The magic number was 7 trees had to go after last winter, Noise a day.
Now I'm now poor, too. Gee that 125 HP chipper made noise and the hydralic bucket truck motor ran all day too... Did I say noisy?

    Rain is beginning to trickle.
3 days of severe weather alerts starting.
Let's see if the Grapevine closes.
As a main artery between North and South, I do believe it should be maintained with Milwaukee efficiency.
    Yes I do River !
But considering the grade, maybe lessons would be better learned from Pittsburgh with its' San Francisco like hills and snow too rather then Milwaukee.
Remember, it hasn't been the "old" Grapevine for many years.

Well it was no great rain back in November.
Just the usual government hype because after all, the weather service is a government agency and the purpose of government is to lie. Just to practice, even when they don't have to.
So here in Southern Coastal Califo-nia we were told scattered showers Sat. & Sun. and then clearing. Now this Sunday night we are told to brace for rain.
    Who can you trust?
    Not the government weather bureau.

Yanno, if I were mean and nasty, you just walked into the cream pie factory, held out both arms and yelled HIT ME!

"They" say Southern Califo-nia is in for some big time rain.
Even though it has been only a drizzle to maybe a lite pitter patter, nothing qualifying as close to a heavy rain, let alone moderate. Still "they" insist big time rain is coming and continuing for four day.
The air is clean and if there is a smell, it is of salt like the ocean. I like rain.

Anyone notice weather seems to oscillate harder?
    Stormy season is stormier.
Cold season is colder and hot hotter.
And as a weather change happens with seasons or fronts, it seems more extreme. Anyone notice?

    Re: There's Always The Weather

There is a big band of rain soaking California this upcoming few days to a week.

I suggest you take off your clothes, pick up a bar of soap and go outside to shower.

Who knows, the nieghbors might actually enjoy watching...

Is there such a thing as a bio-degradable soap?
