possible real filibuster

There is a story out there tht the Senate may force Jim Bunning to stay on the floor all night in a real, honest-to-God filibuster.

I'm not clear on the mechanics of how that works but once Bunning takes the floor he has to keep speaking. When he stops speaking, any Democratic senator may ask for Unanimous Consent to pass the bill. If Bunning objects, then they vote by voice.

The trouble with a filibuster is that you have limited water and unless you are wearing a diaper, you can't piss on the floor of the room. They removed the spitoons years ago.

So if you are a political junky like me... you might want to monitor CSPAN-2 since they televise the Senate.

You know California put in terms limits, I am not sure its working well but the one thing it does is limits the time a person in congress can muck up the works, it does give them an incentive to get things done, but then again its California.

Think of what it would be like to have congress with terms limits.

The house 5 terms, or 10 years.
The Senate, 2 terms or 12 years.

Why not add the Supreme Court?
Say 17 years.

We already have terms limits on the President, put in place by the REPUBLICANS, they did not want another FDR.

It would cause the carrier politician to rethink his place, and just think of all the lobbyist it would create, doing for business what they would never think of doing for you.

Harry Reid has called the entire Senate into the chamber to have a discussion or colloquy about the bill --

If you really want to know why there aren't "Mister Who-ze-what-see goes to Washington" style filibusters is that they have quorum calls and votes and IT'S REALLY BORING BECAUSE NOTHING HAPPENS.

My, my, I must agree, I have not seen these two do anything sense I have lived here but what have been the alternatives? In California years ago Alan Cranston was elected and reelected to the senate, people asked why, it was simple, nobody ran against him. Some people in congress want the limelight others just keep there head down and mostly do things nobody knows about, Ted Stevens comes to mind.
