    Bilateral Orchiectomy Today

    Hello Everyone,

It's been a long time since I posted anything anywhere around these forums. Some of you may remember me, some may not. I've slowed down a lot with my skydiving over the years.

The last few years, my T levels hit rock bottom from the pain meds I take for severe headaches. Considering those meds give me a life to live, the doctors refused to touch those, instead opting to do T replacement therapy instead.

I showed allergic reactions to T patches and the gel, and then a skin test was horribly allergic to testosterone injection, so I spent six months at an allergist getting de-sensitized to the injection. After finally getting on full dose for six months, I started getting testicular pain.

I went through two nerve blocks that ended up wearing off, and fired two urologists (the first dismissed the pain as "insignificant"--yeah, let me kick you in the balls and see how insignificant you think it is!!!). After eighteen months of fighting with the pain, I was at the point I could either have a nerve stimulator put inside me or have the testicles removed.

The nerve stimulator had its set of pros and cons. Considering I'm 38, done with a family and not wanting to deal with this constantly from now on (other than taking meds, which I already do), the orchie was the right option.

Stanford did the simple bilateral orchie this morning. I'm up and around, though taking it easy, and packing ice on regularly. I can feel the incision, but it sure doesn't feel like I got kicked in the balls anymore.

    Thank goodness for that help.

    Congratulations my fellow eunuch!

Keep still as much as you can and have an ice bag on your groin as much as possible. The first few days are the worse. Put a thin towel between the ice bag and the skin for some protection from ice bite. Drink liquidates. Do some walking for shourt distance once in a while. It help keep the blood in the lower half of the body to circulate and not form clots. Keep the area clean and dry. Follow the instruction on care. Very light lifting at first and use your back to lift. No bending at the stomach. That will cause possible problems.

    Congrats

Wish you fast and easy healing time Bobbie

Thumbs up Re: Bilateral Orchiectomy Today

    Welcome to the club!

Bobbie! You forgot one vital thing! If you laugh or sneeze lean forward!!! Trust me this is not a joke.

Lots of frozen peas or corn is a great "ice pack"

Keep wearing the "jockstrap" (at night in particular) for 4 or 5 days. I think you need to wear the "nylons" for the first day or two? Change the jockstrap fluff however. If your in pain take your pain pills!!! And if you do, don't forget to take the laxative(s) so you can still ahh function.

For what its worth I can well remember when #2 was removed and I woke up without that kicked in the nads sharp pain anymore. Life WILL be better without that waking you at 1 AM and keeping you awake until morning.

Good luck on the HRT. Do your labs and don't forget your yearly labs, PSA and DRE...

    Re: Bilateral Orchiectomy Today

Thanks for the support and encouragement from everyone!

I am definitely sore, but using bags of frozen peas/carrots mix as ice packs to try and keep swelling controlled. Pain pills have been a *MUST*. I can at least tell that the pain is from the incision and all, compared to the constant throb that was the testicles before.

I was told that the surgery was quick and without complications, no bleeding or any issues. The urologist said it seemed like it was only ten minutes though it was probably more like half an hour to do get it done.

I'm up and around. and making jokes about it to those around me.

"I understand the dog's perspective on things now!"

"If I lose my day job, I could always become a harem guard!"

    Best wishes to you all.

    Rich,

As a guy who endured nearly 30 years of testicle pain on a daily basis, I am with you on the improvement in the pain. In a few days, you will not be able to believe how good you feel.

I had no idea how much of a strain on my whole system the pain was. These days I have energy that I didn;t have for years. I feel like a teenager again, and can work for hours , without a break.

You made the right choice, I assure you, and I would advise anyone else who has chronic testicle pain to seek their removal if nothing else has worked. Getting the Hormone levels right may take a bit, but that aggravation is well worth it , to be pain free.

Good luck with your recovery, and please keep us posted on your progress.

I agree and well said Raymar. When #2 was removed I woke up thinking "Why didn't I do this before?" Chronic pain is a.... pain!

    Re: Bilateral Orchiectomy Today

I'm back home and am certified ball-less. There were a couple minor issues due to my testicles being infarcted but hopefully nothing serious. One testicle had degenerated a bit so the doctor put a drain on that. It had also effected the skin so it was somewhat of a challenge to stitch up that side. So he got out the superglue or at least its higher-priced medical equivalent side. He did two horizontal incisions which seems different than most castrations. I had a spinal block anesthetic so was awake and talkative during the surgery. My anestheologist was a great guy and very accomodating to my wishes to be alert for the procedure. Have to go back Mon to get the drain removed.

    Re: Bilateral Orchiectomy Today

It's almost a couple weeks past the surgery now...man, what a difference. They didn't put drains in with me, they said anything which filled the sac would get re-absorbed. There was a minor amount of pain and swelling on one side that I went to the ER to get a quick double-check on, they just gave me more antibiotics to keep fighting anything that might be infected.

The chronic pain is gone and it is such a huge change. My kids were asking if the same person got brought home from the hospital, my attitude changed so quickly after the surgery and the pain disappeared so quickly. At the same time, I got a bit of surprise the other day. I always knew that we skydivers had big balls, but I never realized they weighed as much as they did--I've lost seven pounds since the surgery!

Seriously, the fact that I can get up and move more than a few hundred feet before being dropped into a chair or on the floor in excruciating pain makes a **BIG** difference. I can get a bit more exercise every day just with running around at work from one spot to another and my job isn't that physically intensive. I'm now doing stuff in the yards as well on the weekends, so that helps.

A special thanks goes out to the urologist at Stanford for not being afraid to take this treatment route after the first urologist dismissed the pain as "insignificant", wanting instead to focus on my nighttime bedwetting. The second urologist refused to do anything other than shuffle me off on to a pain management doctor who was already honest enough to admit that we were down to one option and it might not work. It's nice to meet someone who has "balls" when it comes to becoming a eunuch!

Great that all is working out for the best now. Getting the right doctor is so important. So much suffering can be prevented. Think you are over the hardest and it will be smooth sailing now.
