Just finished the No. 1 book of the 'John the eunuch' series, but I don't think I'll bother with any more.
I've also sent for 'Memoirs of a Byzantine Eunuch.' That's in proper book form, so I'm waiting for it. It takes ages to get a book here. So still just four in my eunuch book collection. (I named them a few posts bakc, if anyone wants to know.)
Report: Memoirs of a Byzantine Eunuch is not very good. Quite odd in places.
So there's 'A Persian Boy' by Mary Renault that's good, 'Cry to Heaven' by Anne Rice, that's better, and 'Not a Man' by M. A. McRae, that's best. Or best so far. I'm still looking and have two more eunuch books ordered.
Yeah, thanks for the suggestions! Not a Man looks like a hot and heavy read.
Please say what you think of it. I bought the book, but it's really cheap as an ebook. $2.99. ebooks are good if you don't know whether it's worth spending real money. I didn't really think it was all that hot and heavy, or only in places. It was more what a real eunuch would be like.
Re: Favorite Off-Site Story? Post the Link Here, On-topic or not!
Yeah, seemed like it. I "Checked Inside" on amazon, read those pages.. Is there more? I don't think the operation itself was described there.
I mean heavy as in psychologically, cause it seems like it's gotta be as the good-hearted boy is reduced to nothing but an object of physical pleasure to all the older men in it. Hot cause I like the concept of castrations like in such fiction. But it does depend on how well written (detailed) it is.
The castration is in the first chapter. In detail. But in the 2nd chapter, the boy actually kills the doctor who did it, and later, he kills someone else, but it's in a primitive country, and both times, he gets away with it, and anyway, they deserved it. It's a long book. I thought it well written, easier to read than Anne Rice's book. Not too high-brow. But yeah, sort of heavy. Very emotional sometimes, but it ends well. I'm reading it again. I reckon it's one to keep.
Reading another now. Just called 'Eunuch' by Len Lustgarden. It's also modern-day. But its a bit of a slog.
Two more eunuch books: “Eunuch’ by Len Lustgarten, This is actually modern-day. Mohamad is made a eunuch when he is young, and sold to a prince to look after a harem in Arabia, but later takes Testosterone, and is masculised. The story is part about his cloned son, and even more a lot of politics.
Also ‘The Janissary Tree’ by Jason Goodwin. This is a detective story set in the Ottoman Empire, the same as the John the Eunuch series.
So three really good ones, and the others are just OK ones. I think I’ve given up looking. There are mentions now and then, but it appears I might have all the ones worth noting.
The good ones: “The Persian Boy’ by Mary Renault, (about a slave to Alexander) ‘Cry to Heaven’ by Anne Rice, about a castrato, and ‘Not a Man’ by M. A. Mcrae, about a bed-boy who was castrated. This is also modern-day.
If anyone is looking, I wouldn't worry about the ones except for those three. But tell me if you find any more good ones, because I still want to read about what a real eunuch might be like - that is, a normal boy castrated before puberty.
I love these stories!
Hi Francesca. You know any more? ?
and which ones did you read?
Just discovered a really neat story over at Nifty.
Alien 'life-form' in the form of a... well... a blob of underwear-like mass, takes over the genitals of an early-20's aged male. At the start, it's a co-desired symbiot relationship; alien gives knowledge, human supplies energy/life-force. Latest chapter hints at castration. Rather (surprisingly) well-written piece for the site, with lots of mind-dialogue between the alien/parasite and the human/source.

I apologize for my avatar.
Behold the Asshorn.
Thanks for that hot suggestion!
That was fun!![]()
I had another look for actual books about eunuchs yesterday, Google and on Amazon. I couldn't find any I hadn't read or sound like there not worth reading.
Anyone know any?
