Just a Rant

Rate this Entry
Someone telling you to "just stop worrying and working yourself up" or "just don't be depressed" do nothing to someone with bipolar complicated by anxiety besides make the person feel like shit and wonder why they can't be normal. I wish I could always control my moods and while my medications work, nothing is 100%.

Welcome to my world of bipolar. I generally no longer worry about what other folks say or think. "Fuck them," can be a good mantra. Ignorance is not bliss, but then it provides the opportunity for some strongly worded education! Turn the tables and suggest they snap out of their ignorance and learn something.

Kristoff already wrote my general thoughts. He's right on target. Years ago, it really bothered me when people told me things like "just snap out of it (depression)" and "stop worrying." It took me a long time to fully accept that these ignorant attitudes were their problems, not mine.

Sometimes the thing we need really pisses us off.

ONLY I can overcome my depression. Only you can overcome your depression.

Drugs can make you forget for a while, Therapists can give you different ways to look at things, but in the end I need to own up to and overcome my own problems.

Worrying is addictive, it's the kind of addiction that you can justify. Like Hope the addiction that you shouldn't, couldn't, wouldn't give up on.

Granted sometimes it's more than attitude, it is a situation. That's when it's time to, as kristoff stated "Fuck them" and that is done, by leaving it or them or whatever.
