This is a future we don't want to see. Let's remember that this earth belongs to future generations.

Kall looked at his friend who was laying beside him coughing up blood. This was a dangerous sign, the last stage of the Titian flu. He had to get medicine, but only the rich could afford to pay for medical care, and they were hardly that. As he looked around their tiny room that they rented in a mostly derelict building in the city of New New Jersey, he wondered how he would ever live without Raul. They met five years ago when they both were in school. Neither of them had living parents, but the state was still paying for education to a certain point. Kall thought that he had a much older brother living out on the Hydra star system, but he wasn’t sure. He had moved so many times in the last five years that if his brother wanted to search for him it would be next to impossible, and he barely had enough money to survive, let alone do a outer galaxy search. Raul was waking up, his face pale with the scarlet lines of the disease more apparent in the filtered light of morning the place was cold, then again only the rich could afford electricity for heat and night lights. This building once had solar- star panels but they had been either destroyed or stolen years before. “God, I’m so sorry!” “Hush, don’t use your energy to apologize, how are you feeling? No don’t answer that either. If I go out will you be alright for a few hours.” “Don’t” “Don’t go out?” “Don’t do it!” “It’s the only way I can get you medicine, I’m not going to let you die on me.” “They won’t pay you enough.” “I’ll barter with them, if my balls aren’t enough, I’ll find something else I can sell. I told you that last night.” “Kall, please don’t.” “Why you won’t love me when I become a eunuch?, well then I’ll have to do something about that won’t I. Ted’s a eunuch, and he’s VERY sexy.” “That’s not what I mean.” Raul went into a coughing spasm. Kall took a breath and left. He was resolved to buy the precious medicine. It even cost money to get into the door of a pharmacy, and medical clinics were barred to street rats like him unless he was going as a donor. Sex organs were always needed, and they brought the highest prices. He knew that he had to get a thousand dollars to buy the vial of tablets that would cure his friend. There wasn’t much time left. The street was teaming with life, billions of young people without jobs idling wasting away. It was dangerous to travel into strange neighborhoods so he tried to imagine a protective shield around himself. He heard a voice yell. “Hey you, you’re cute, stop.” “Fuck off man” “Such a greeting from such a beautiful guy, I’ll pay you.” He ran faster, he had no time for street sex, it you were lucky you could be paid a dollar or two, if you were unlucky you ended up dead. Normally Raul would go with him to the docks where they would help load the freighters headed out to Cape May where the rocket ports were. Usually they ended up making enough money to eat well that day with a bit extra. Raul hadn’t been well now for over a week, and they were growing desperate. The wind started to blow and a piece of paper flew towards him. He caught it. The paper was a travel advert showing a green landscape by a peaceful lake. He had never seen anyplace that wasn’t overcrowded and dirty. Under the holograph were the words ‘Come to Pearth, one of the most beautiful planets in the Hydra Star System’. He didn’t have the money to get medicine, yet to go into space and find his brother was a dream, could only be a dream. He came to the guarded door of the Neper Clinic. A guard stopped him. “What are you doing here slackhead?” “I I am here to make a donation.” “Okay, go on in. The guard shook his head such a fine healthy looking young man, well it wasn’t his business. Too bad he couldn’t claim a finders fee on this one.” To be Continued if anyone likes this.
