The Missionary and the Emir

This story is based loosely on an actual historical event. An arrogant Baptist missionary offends a powerful Muslim ruler who has him horribly violated and mutilated.
The Reverend Mr. Seth Wilkinson was an ordained Southern Baptist minister. He was also vainglorious and self-aggrandizing, all , of course , for the greater glory of God. He felt that he had a call to work as a missionary in the Near East, bringing the light of the true faith to the benighted and deluded followers of the false prophet, Mohammed.
He did not feel called, as many others did, to bring salvation to the natives of Darkest Africa. He had several reasons for avoiding such a mission. Primarily, he despised "niggers". He was not at all sure that they even had souls or that, being descended from Ham, should be saved from damnation. And he certainly didn't want to share Heaven with them.
The Arabs, on the other hand, were white men who had been led astray. In order to refute the false teachings of the Prophet, Mr. Wilkinson knew that he must know just what those teachings were and to communicate with the Arabs, he must know their language. So, he undertook the study of Arabic and acquired a good reading knowledge of it and could speak it fluently, though with an atrocious accent.
That having been accomplished, he studied the Qur'an, or as he always called it, the "KORan", until he was nearly as familiar with it as he was with the Holy Bible.
Though many missionaries took their wives and children with them into the field, Seth Wilkinson chose not to, both for their protection from possible attack, and to protect the morals of his children from corruption by exposure to heathen customs and beliefs.
He seems to have chosen the small Arabic Emirate of Yewait at random. In the event, it was to prove a VERY bad choice. Yewait was ruled by Hassan ibn Ali, Amir, a very devout, orthodox, and doctrinnaire Moslem who regarded himself as the Defender of the Faith. He tolerated neither blasphemy, sacrilege, nor heresy and punished their practitioners very severely. The emir harboured a particular dislike for giaours [Christians] and was loth to allow them even to enter Yewait.
The U.S. Consul in Yewait City, Mr. Sharpmore, managed to obtain a visa for one Mr. Wilkinson, an Arabic scholar, to visit Yewait for study and research. He warned Seth Wilkinson that his mission was extremely perilous and that he had better think twice about every word he said unless he wished to join the revered ranks of the Christian martyrs.
Mr. Wilkinson viewed himself as a Christian knight in shining armour bringing the light of salvation to the paynim. He considered divine protection to be his by right. Therefore," [his] strength [was] as the strength of ten because [his] heart [was] pure."
Having obtained a room at the least filthy and flea-bitten of Yewait City's inns, Mr. Wilkinson prepared what he regarded as an exceptionally moving and compelling sermon. It was dynamite, but not for the reasons which he believed. He intended to bring both a Holy Bible and a "glorious" Qur'an into the city square, holding one in each hand and explain why one was holy and the other diabolical. After praying about this decisaion, he felt that he had been given the "Go Ahead." by Jesus.
The next morning found him in the square, standing on a shipping crate for tobacco which he had found in the yard of the inn. His first mistake was holding the Qur'an in his LEFT hand. To Muslims, the left hand is unclean, it is used for wiping one's behind. He attributed the authorship of the Holy Bible to God and that of the Qur'an to Iblis [the Muslim Satan]. He pointed out that very little of the Qur'an is original, large parts of it having been cribbed from the Pentateuch, by Mohammed, a false prophet.
On the other hand, every word of the Holy Bible was God's true word. "Let God be true and every man a liar !" God spoke through the true prophets (those of the Old Testament) and , later, the Apostles. All others who claimed to speak for God, such as the false prophet, Mohammed, were liars.
There was a handful of Arab Christians and a very large number of increasingly angry Muslims in the crowd. While Seth Wilkinson went on raving, the mood of the crowd became uglier and uglier. Suddenly, two of the Emir's soldiers seized the missionary , tied his wrists behind his back, and hustled him to the palace.
He was dragged into the throne room and brought before the Emir.
One of the soldiers snapped "Bow before the Emir !" Seth refused, saying "I bow before no man." The Emir smiled and said "Make him bow." One of the soldiers reached down into Seth's crotch , seized his testicles, and squeezed them very hard. Seth, of course, bent over, involuntarily bowing before the Emir.
"That is better", said Hassan. "When you are told to bow, bow." Despite this incident, Emir Hassan , having just finished dallying with his favourite concubine, was still in a mellow mood. Otherwise, it is very likely that he would have ordered this infernal giaour impaled.
Instead, he explained Seth Wilkinson's transgressions to him in detail.
"You have committed three serious crimes against Islam, any one of which is punishable by death. You have defiled the Glorious Qur'an by holding it in your unclean hand. You have maligned the Glorious Qur'an by calling it the work of Iblis. Finally, you have maligned the Prophet by calling him a false prophet who has led his people astray.
These very culpable errors I attribute to a combination of ignorance and zeal. You will be punished for them and you are ordered never to repeat them. If you transgress in this manner again, you will suffer a punishment worse than death and you will curse the father who begot you and the mother who bore you.
For the crimes which you have committed today, you are sentenced to be beaten on the bare buttocks in the city square: forty strokes with a rattan cane."
The beating was not only excruciatingly painful, it was also deeply humiliating. The Rev. Mr. Wilkinson had to lie face-down on his bed at the inn and take his meals standing up for three weeks. He wondered what the punishment worse than death might be, but was inclined to regard it as sheer bombast. Seth was very proud of himself. His faith had been tested, tried in the balances and NOT found wanting. His zeal was undiminished.
Some of the Christians who had been in the crowd came to see him at the inn and to counsel great caution. He might meet with them in their homes and preach to small groups, but he MUST NOT preach in public again. His punishment had been very mild, but if he offended a second time, he would face the full ferocity of Emir Hassan's wrath. When asked about the punishment worse than death, they responded vaguely and evasively speaking of violation and mutilation.
Once recovered from his flagellation, Seth made ready to "beard the lion in his den." He carried his Bible in a shoulder bag and held the Qur'an in his right hand. He started by preaching about the great advantage of Christianity over Islam, the remission of sin.
Although Al'lah [or Ar-Rahman] is referred to repeatedly as "the merciful, the compassionate" in the Qur'an few examples of Al'lah's mercy and compassion are given, no specific procedure for absolution from sin is given nor does absolution seem to be promised to all believers who have sinned.
Next, he emphasized the divinity of Jesus Christ, as the only begotten Son of God, though Muslims assert that "God begetteth not, nor is he begotten." In the face of this outright contradiction, Seth found himself forced to decry the latter statement as an untruth. Of course, this could be construed as maligning the Qur'an. In the Qur'an, Jesus is treated as only one prophet among many.
But, if so, surely Mohammed is also only one prophet among many and inferior to Jesus who is the Son of God and one of the three persons of the Trinity. This, again, was treading on dangerous ground.
Seth Wilkinson did notice a man in the crowd who was writing rapidly, evidently taking notes on his sermon. In fact, the man was Emir Hassan's scribe and he was charged with producing a verbatim transcript of the entire sermon .
It was impossible for Seth to avoid making further invidious comparisons between Jesus and Mohammed and between the Holy Bible and the Glorious Qur'an. He was digging himself in deeper with almost every word he said. Though no one statement was too offensive in itself, the cumulative effect was highly critical of both the Prophet and the Qur'an.
When he finished his sermon, Seth Wilkinson gave himself a mental pat on the back. He had been suffered to finish his sermon without either interruption or arrest.....yet. Although he did not realize it, the reason was only because the Emir hadn't read his scribe's transcript of the sermon yet.
The soldiers dragged him from his room in the dead of the night and the missionary was cast into a noisome dungeon cell. The next morning, he was brought before Hassan ibn Ali, Amir, who was not in a mellow mood. In fact he was furious.
"You cannot deny that I warned you, yet for two hours, you criticized and spoke disrespectfully of both the Prophet and the Quran. Clearly you are incorrigible. If you survive your punishment, you will wish that you had not. You will pray to your God to deliver you....and he will not hear you. You will pray for death, but we will make every effort to prevent that release. You will suffer as you have never imagined possible.
Take him out into the stable yard, strip him naked, bend him over a saddle on a trestle and bind his wrists and ankles together. There, let him be humiliated until he has experienced the deepest degradation."
The guards made haste to carry out the Emir's orders. Once Seth was tied naked over a saddle, the Emir came out into the yard and a chair was brought for him to sit in, for he intended both to witness and to supervise the giaour's punushment.
Seven stable hands and eleven black slaves were brought out into the yard and ordered to strip. "This defamer of our holy faith is to be humiliated until he wishes he had never been born. You are all to rape him from behind. Take your pleasure upon him as if he were a woman. The stable hands will exercise their pleasure upon him first, as often as they can. Then it will be the slaves' turn. I offer a special incentive to the slaves. The one who buggers this infidel most often will be given his freedom. Therefore, you must pull your dkeur out while you are still spending your seed, so that I can see that you have carried the act to completion. "
Upon hearing this, Seth Wilkinson was overcome with disgust. It was bad enough to have the Sin of Sodom committed on him by the Arab stable hands, but to be raped by NIGGERS ! The prospect so nauseated Seth that he nearly vomited. He quietly prayed for strength to endure the ordeal.
Seth had promised himself that he would make no outcry. He broke that promise immediately. The first stable hand rammed his dry rigid dkeur up Seth's rectum in one swift hard thrust...and Seth screamed, the first of many times until he lost his voice. The stable hand's stiff member pounded on Seth Wilkinson's prostate gland and , to his horror, he found himself getting an erection which did not go unnoticed by the onlookers.
Seth realized that, unless this stimulation ended very soon, he wouldn't be able to restrain his semen from bursting forth. He had never experienced anything like this before, and the powerful sexual pleasure he was experiencing was even more distressing than the pain. Seth's face was scarlet with embarrassment. Then the dam broke. A great torrent of semen poured from Seth's erect virile member.
Hassan laughed. "So, the holy minister is a catamite." "I'm not. I'm a married man with three children." shouted Seth. "So ? What has that to do with it ?" asked Emir Hassan. "Enjoy it while you can, catamite."
While his own sperm was pouring out, Seth was aware of a hot thick liquid spurting into his bowels, the first stable-hand's seed. He felt befouled and degraded. Yet, this was only the beginning. Another dkeur was rammed into his body. Seth accomodated it more easily this time. Having just ejaculated, Seth had no more semen for the moment, but, to his shame and distress, his erection returned almost immediately.
One of the younger stable hands walked up to Seth , pushed his erect dkeur against Seth's lips and said "Suck it." Seth kept his mouth closed until the man who was buggering him grabbed his testicles and squeezed them hard. Seth screamed and the young fellow's dkeur slipped into his mouth. Though he refused to suck it, Seth couldn't prevent the young man from working his member back and forth inside his mouth until his seed spurted out onto Seth's tongue and down his throat. When he pulled out, Seth puked.
Of the seven stable hands, five came back for second helpings, so that altogether, they had sex with him twelve times. Seth ejaculated during the fourth and ninth times . He felt utterly depraved, degraded and humilated. Yet, he knew that worse was to come. The size of the Negro phallus was legendary, and before competing for freedom, the slaves paraded by Seth showing off their impressive endowment. He knew those huge things would HURT and that the beating which they would inflict on his aching prostate gland would probably cause him to ejaculate several more times.
To his intense embarrassment and chagrin, Seth noticed that while the slaves were displaying their dkeurs to him, he had gotten an erection again. Old feelings that he had suppressed since early adolescence began to trouble him again. Doubts of his masculinity and an "unnatural" interest in other males' bodies began to resurface. Could it be that he really was a catamite ?
The thought that he was about to be buggered by eleven niggers made his stomach turn. THIS was the ultimate degradation for a white man from the deep South. He mustn't let himself get any pleasure from it. Oh God, suppose one of those niggers stuck his talleywhacker into Seth's mouth ! Surely he'd die on the spot of sheer mortification. It would be unendurable.
The first long, thick, hard, black organ was pushed slowly up into Seth's body. His anus was so stretched by now that there was much less pain than Seth had anticipated. He was beginning to think, though, that that thing would come out of his mouth if it went in much further. But, thinking of what that thing inside of him was, a nigger's talleywhacker, made Seth beg the Lord to let him die.
The sex act was very rough, shaking Seth's entire body. The ejaculation was so copious that it acted as a powerful enema and, when the slave pulled out while still spurting to show that he had completed the act, Seth's bowels emptied themselves. The stable hands came with shovels and removed his dung. Disgust and loathing were beginning to unhinge Seth's mind.
Seth might have taken that slave's dkeur without much pain, but the next one, though no longer, was much thicker. Despite his long-since-broken vow of silence, Seth screamed, a scratchy ragged scream, for his vocal cords could not endure much more screaming. Yet, still the humiliation and degradation went on. All of the slaves buggered him twice, six of them managed a third time, and one, a huge, very black, stud with the largest organ of the lot, a man named Al Ghezee, buggered Seth two more times, though he had already won his freedom with the fourth.
Seth was exhausted and so overcome with disgust, self-loathing, humiliation, and chagrin that he just wanted to die. But this was not permitted. There was one thing yet to be done.
After Al Ghezee was freed and congratulated by the Emir (He continued to work for the Emir, but was paid and free to come and go as he wished.), The Emir sealed Seth Wilkinson's fate. "This giaour has submitted his body to you like a woman. He has shown repeatedly that he enjoyed being used as if a woman. Such a thing does not deserve to be a man. It is a disgrace to its dkeur and testicles and does not deserve these tokens of manhood. Let the giaour, then, be gelded and docked."
At this command, Seth Wilkinson gave voice to a wordless howl of dismay. The barber was sent for having been told to bring his sharpest razor. a brass catheter, and a fire pot with a cautery. The catheter was inserted into his urethra until momentarily stopped by the verumontanum. This catheter was in two sections which would be separated to reduce its length .
The barber brought his razor up under Seth's scrotum and the underside of his penis and them pulled it up and around the organs until the testicles fell onto the ground and he slid the severed penis off the catheter, of which he then removed the larger part, leaving a short tube protruding from the urethra . With the orange-red-hot cautery, the barber cauterized the stump of Seth's sex organs. Last of all, he held Seth's severed dkeur up in front of his eyes. Seth gave vent to a terrible scream which ended in hacking and coughing as he lost his voice.
Though he could hardly speak above a whisper, Seth began babbling mindlessly. The violated and mutilated missionary was thrown out into the street where some of his Christian friends had gathered. He was carried back to the inn and one of the men went to the U.S. Consul to tell him of what had happened. Mr. Sharpmore sighed and told the man that he would contact Mrs. Wilkinson in the United States to arrange to bring her husband back to the U.S., but that it might be over a month before anyone could come to Yewait.
Mr. Sharpmore's telegram read "YOUR HUSBAND GRIEVOUSLY INJURED STOP NEEDS CONSTANT CARE STOP PLEASE ARRANGE FOR HIS RETURN TO U S AS QUICKLY AS POSSIBLE STOP I WILL DO WHAT I CAN AT THIS END STOP J SHARPMORE US CONSUL '
Cordelia Wilkinson was not a clinging vine but a resourceful strong-willed woman. She booked passage for Yewait on a freighter (Ocean liners never stopped there.) for herself, her two brothers, and the family physician . The children were boarded with their grandparents. Still, it was six weeks before the S.S. Newark Merchant arrived at Yewait City.
Mr. Sharpmore had obtained visas for them from the Emir, though he nearly had to threaten to have the U.S. marines sent in.
Seth Wilkinson had had no medical attention since his torture and mutilation. His Christian friends had done the best they could to care for him. His condition had not changed at all. He had regained his voice, but used it only to babble idiotically. He was incontinent and had to be treated like an infant.
Cordelia and her party brought him to the Newark Merchant and Dr. Beausoleil gave him such medical attention as was possible under the cirtcumstances.
It was to be three years after his return to the United states before Seth Wilkinson finally regained his senses. He was deeply embittered, feeling that no man's faith needed to be tried THAT severely. Indeed, he had utterly lost his faith. He resigned his ministry and even repudiated Christianity.Ultimately, he became an instructor of history at a local private academy.
Although he was a eunuch, Cordelia stood by him throughout his life, a helpmeet in a relationship which was a marriage in name only.
