Jan and Karl had been at the show for about an hour and a half, they already had a bag full of flyers from photographers, tuxedo rental places, caterers and vacation planners for their honeymoon. They had booked an appointment with a financial planner to look at their income tax and investment plans. Jan was in her glory, they had stopped in at 3 different dress places and she had tried on 5 dresses (they had Polaroid’s of 3 in the bag) She said that she would pick the final one so he wouldn’t know on the day of the wedding. Karl was in favour of an interesting European style that was backless, low cut and had semi-translucent skirt that Jan’s legs would look great in (you wouldn’t be able to see anything normally but as she move the fabric revealed much more) Watching her try it on had given him a hard on so bad it hurt. It was almost a shame for her to change back (not that it mattered much) Jan was wearing white lycra shorts and a white mid-drift top that left little to the imagination. Wandering on through the bridal show Karl stopped in at a video production both to talk and look at the high tech gadgets. Jan wandered on down the row to the next booths. After about 20 minutes Karl tore himself away and went in search of his girl. It was tough to keep focused, there were allot of beautiful women there, both looking with their fiancés and moving around in small groups of 3 or 4. Up ahead he finally spotted her, as she stopped at another booth. Dodging through the crowd he didn’t see the sign unit he slit his hand around her waist and gave her an “I’m here’ hug. “High” he gave her a peck on the cheek and turned to glance into the booth, then looked again…Blinkoff Castration Centre” it read…Blinkoff what… “Oh, you must be Jan’s fiancée”, said the girl in the booth. Linda (that’s what her name tag said) must have read Jan’s nametag; all of the ‘Brides’ had them. “Uh, yea,” Karl managed. “But why are you…?” Karl’s voice trailed off looking back at the sign. “Why are we here?”, Linda smiled warmly, giggling. “I just asked that myself”, said Jan – also grinning “We offer a number of services including body piercing and body mods in addition to our castration services”, Linda beamed and handed Jan a pamphlet, “ just ask if you have any questions.” Jan opened the pamphlet and began to read, Karl looked into the booth, at the back table a young couple no more than 20 were sitting at a table and flipping through a book with another consultant offering comments as they looked. As they flipped the girl would point to one page or the other, her partner would acknowledge her examples and make short replies. The consultant pulled out a set of forms and began to fill them in. On the wall at the back of the booth a pretty smiling model held up her had, first two fingers in a V shape. Another couple, these two about Jan & Karl’s age were looking in a cabinet filled with jewellery. Karl turned and moved to leave, mostly confused, grossed out and a little frightened and strangely tuned on a little. Linda, noticing Karl’s turning to leave stepped up to them again “So what questions did you have?” Karl opened his mouth to respond with a polite ‘None-thank-you’ and leave but he didn’t get the chance. “I didn’t see you last year when I came with friends?” asked Jan “This is our first year at the larger events, we’ve been expanding over the last few years. 10 Years ago our original owner Dr. Blinkoff retired. We were the Blinkoff vasectomy clinic at the time. His daughter Dr. Vanessa Blinkoff took over. After some market research she began to offer castrations as an alternative to vasectomy. “Who would do that..?” the now incredulous Karl asked? “Turns out that the health befits of castration are great for men”, said Linda, “we get a lot of our business from physician referrals”. Castration can result in reduced risk of heard disease, longer lives and so on. “Ummm, I’ve seen articles in my magazine about that”, said Jan referring to her Women’s View magazines. Karl thought they were silly actually. “Doctors began recommending therapeutic castration to their ‘at- risk’ patients. At the same time a change in fashion occurred, body modification and piercing became common place and no longer a ‘new age’ or ‘punk’ idea.” Linda gestured to Jan’s navel piercing and her own small diamond nose stud. “We were able to attract a whole new client. And about 5 years ago we did the first non-therapeutic castration at the request of one of our female staffers. She wanted their husband to be bound to her with more than just a ring. Her husband agreed and now they are living happily, and married for 8 years. Well beyond the national average. After a bit of research; we discovered that many marriages suffer breakdowns after 6 months to 2 years - because the sex has become commonplace. If a couple agree to limit sex they can have a more fulfilling and longer-term relationship as companions not just as lovers. Today, we offer a variety of services for both men and women that help them bond more closely. Castrations, labial trims, original and re-circumcisions are common with penectomies becoming especially popular.” Karl was surprised, Linda had gotten all of that out with only a couple of breaths, it sounded like a story she liked to tell and tell a lot. Linda turned and guided Jan toward the middle of the booth (Karl followed) She picked up a photocopied newspaper article and handed Jan and Karl a copy. “Give that a read and I’ll be back in a moment” Linda left to greet another 20 something couple that had arrived. “Come on Jan” Karl said, “I want to get another look a the motor home vacation packages”, and he turned to leave. Jan caught his wrist, and spun him back setting into his arms. “Trying to run away scared of getting your ‘thing’ cut off are you – she teased and kissed him.” “NO” it came out sounding small and defensive. “Good – then, let’s take a look”, she cut him off before he could work up a good argument. She picked up a pamphlet marked “Making your Marriage Last Forever” and popped it in their bag along with the others that Linda had given them. Jan scanned across the table quickly picking up one of each pamphlet. Linda appeared again, “Here’s my card, if you have any questions please give me a call or visit our web page.” Jan smiled and took the card. “By the way there is a social event tomorrow night. Several of our previous customers hold one every month or so. I’ve written the address on the card, dress is very casual.” “Thanks” said Jan, “Sounds like it would be fun.” As they left Jan handed Karl the card.
