Man had reached his zenith in the 21st century. For thousands of years, nature was a danger for man, but man had made the earth dangerous for nature. Resources were depleted rapidly and many species became extinct. The human population became so great that farms were moved into orbit and natural resources were farmed from the asteroid belt. This was terribly dangerous work and one company, ManGen, bio-engineered a new breed of human with smaller brains, and as strong as a gorilla. The small brain made them more submissive and the huge muscles made them ideal for work in rough off-planet conditions. These broad shouldered and broad hipped endomorphs were called Hei. Many died in off world mining projects.
At the same time the wealthy had a burning need for companionship and didn’t want to risk scandal with prostitutes or financial ruin with marriage. So ManGen developed pleasure models. The male version was nicknamed Joe. Their starting size was 6’5” and cocks were no smaller than 10”. All were perfect mesomorphs. Mostly blond, but some redheads and brunettes with blue eyes and perfect tans. It didn’t take long for the wealthy to start abusing their property. At first they arranged athletic competitions where the Joes excelled. This progressed to wrestling matches where the winning Joe fucked the loser. Finally, cockfights were setup where Joes were armed with blades strapped to their elbows, shoulders, knees and wrists. Many died in the ring. But neither the Hei or Joe had any rights since their DNA was manufactured and they had a termination date of 30 years. They were not considered human. Events changed their luck. The earth had had enough of human domination and started to react violently. The planet heated up, polar ice caps melted and weather became tropical. Floods retook the coastal areas. Even the Sahara turned into a flooded mangrove forest. Finally the oceans died and massive amounts of poison gas swept across the continents. With the weather so violent, sometimes critical food shipments were delayed or food storage facilities were flooded. Massive city wide food riots broke out and society began to break down. The military went to ManGen and asked for Hei to control the riots. ManGen developed Hei which were highly aggressive. Releasing Hei into riot areas was very effective. The Hei armed with riot sticks mercilessly wiped out the rioter and innocent bystander alike. Identifying the innocent would have been too complex for the Hei to understand. The military was pleased and began replacing infantry units with Hei. Officers remained human and were needed to direct the Hei. Even the UN had military Hei since no country wanted to donate troops with so many problems at home. But caught up in a corruption scandal the UN missed a food shipment for a Hei army, and it turned on its officers and went rogue. The free Hei raided the agro-hei and started interbreeding and spreading their aggressive genes. National Hei units sent to subdue the rogue army, changed sides and joined the rogue Hei. This massive army spread like army ants and raided cities for food. When the city ran out of food, the Hei ate the humans. Again the military went to ManGen. ManGen didn’t have enough time to conjure up a better blend of Hei DNA, so they gave the military their high-end pleasure models. Although the DNA was exactly the same as a Joe, ManGen charged a premium for these Tarzan class Joe. The first GI Joe units were highly efficient warriors, but the Hei hordes were too many and overwhelmed them. As the economy began to collapse, society was unable to give the Joe’s the equipment they needed to fight the Hei. They were given rifles, boots, helmets to receive orders and ammo packs. No body armor - not even shorts. The army didn’t have a jock strap that could hold a Joe’s big package. For society, the war footage looked like a giant gladiator event. The mob loved seeing the heroic looking Joes fighting the Hei hordes. The casualty rates were terrible. The Joes started demanding better equipment and rights. Neither was given. Society didn’t consider them human. Even the Pope, who kept young Joes (nicknamed Joeys) as altar boys, ruled that Joe and Hei had no souls and were therefore not covered by God’s vicarious grace. Even at the end of human civilization, humans did not want to recognize their abuse of the Joe and Hei. At the battle of New Los Angeles (old LA was underwater), a Joe watched as a horde of Hei surrounded the city. Inside the walls was an ungrateful city of fat humans. Outside, his hungry kin were preparing to lay siege. His helmet buzzed with a message from his commanding officer who was sitting in an air conditioned office in downtown New Los Angeles. The battlefront was no longer safe for human officers to bother showing up. He could hear his officer smacking his lips as he ate a donut. The Joe hated him. He hated how his officer would come into the barracks late at night after a battle and fuck one of the sleeping Joe. Now the officer gave the same instructions. “Defend the gate at all cost.” With artillery and laser canons the first wave would be wiped out, but Joe knew that was only the beginning. Joe scratched his bare butt. He hated that fat officer fucking him. Joe responded with “Sir. Yessir, defend the gate at all cost.” The officer clipped off before Joe finished. Joe looked at the battered gate, looked at the horde, and looked behind at the gleaming city. Even though he wasn’t an officer, the other Joes defending the wall, looked to him for direction and inspiration. They called him Manley even though the humans didn’t recognize his name. He smiled at his brothers as he walked along the wall. Some of the Joe looked younger than 18. ManGen had slipped production dates due to resource shortages. Joes aged the same as humans so much planning was involved in supplying so many units. The military had even been forced to confiscate Joe’s from the wealthy and clergy. It became a patriotic effort to donate Joe to the military. Manley could tell some of the Joey belonged to some dirty old priest. The Joey had the least chance in a battle and was treated no differently by the Hei. They would be sliced open and eaten like the rest. Loud explosions marked the beginning of the artillery barrage. Too early, thought Manley. The Hei hadn’t begun to attack. Some jittery downtown officer had given the order too soon. The cities guns blasted and churned up the ground around the city for two hours. Dust swirled around the walls. The city only wanted to spend money for two hours worth of bombing. Plus it was loud and disturbed the inhabitants. Now with the dust heavy in the air, the Hei attacked. Manley cursed that he didn’t have working infrared goggles. He could hear the war cries getting closer. The strategy was simple. The powerful Hei would run a bomb made from fertilizer to the gate and set it off. It was a suicide mission but effective. The gate was weak from repeated bombings. The Joe fight before the gate and fall back while Joe on the walls defend their retreat. The humans promised reinforcements and air support every day but never delivered. Manley had already selected Joe to defend the gate. Unlike human officers, Manley always joined his men before the gate. Manley called his officer. “Sir, Need another round now. Sir” He didn’t mention the first barrage was too early. Humans hated having their mistakes pointed out. “Sorry Joe. You know the rules. Only 2 hours. Especially today. The honorable mayor, Miguel Continflando, is giving a diversity speech this morning before the parade. Maybe after the speech. I’ll talk to the mayor.” The officer clipped off again. Manley was fucked and still couldn’t see anything. They would have to fight blind. Support from the walls would be useless. “Diversity? The longer he waits de verse its going to get.” At least this explained why there were no news cameras to film the bloody battle today. They were all watching the mayor and the diversity pride parade. Joe looked at his men. He wondered who would make it. He wondered why he was trying. “Change of plans boys. The mayor wants diversity. Open the gates!” His men were confused. They only opened a small hole near the gate. Never the main gate. “Open it. Humans want diversity, lets give it to them.” The Joes were confused but obeyed Manley. He had led them into many brutal battles and trust was unquestioned. Manley removed his helmet and ordered his men to follow him. Manley gave final orders for all defenders to head for the port and remove their helmets. His men complied and followed him into the city. Manley led them through the access tunnels as the mayor pontificated above them. With their powerful lungs, the marathon run to the port was no problem. Above them the obligatory applause turned to shrieks of terror as Hei joined the parade. The Joes started to laugh for the first time in months. Arriving in the port, everything looked calm. Everyone was at the parade. The few workers on the docks seemed bored. Manley knew it would take a little while for the Hei to chew through the city, so he calmly selected the biggest yachts and ordered the port workers to fuel them. The big guns (both military and muscular) convinced the workers to act. His men raided the fish markets and loaded up the ships. They were only given a tasteless paste to eat - never real food and never fresh fish. Manley waved goodbye to the ungrateful city as they sailed off. Manley hoped the Hei wouldn’t get sick eating his commanding officer. With the Joe in rebellion, the human race was finished. The Hei flooded into the cities devouring everything and everyone. Civilization didn’t just collapse it disappeared. What the Hei left, nature devoured. The directors of ManGen realized that humans would be extinct while Hei and Joe were around. Bioweapons were ineffective since the DNA was too similar to human DNA. Prior to being eaten by Hei, the pope had proposed religion as a solution. BioGen developed a shaman Hei. The shaman preached that consuming humans was bad and that eating Joe was good and would give them life beyond their termination date. To save time, the whole Joe did not have to be consumed - just the balls. ManGen then sent an emissary to the Joe and explained that the Joe were not only physically superior to the humans, they were the next step in human evolution. They were bred from nymphs and were therefore gods. The emissary pleaded forgiveness on behalf of the human race and pleaded for help against the Hei. The directors held their ManGen board meeting to discuss the progress. The myth appealed to the Joe’s new sense of confidence and independence, but they refused to help their former masters. It was divine punishment. The Hei also adopted of their new religion but still ate humans since food was getting scarce. Religion had failed. As the directors explored more creative options, the Hei burst into the compound. The directors swallowed their suicide pills and sipped tea for the last time. The creature had returned to its creator. Two thousand years passed and no trace was left of the great cities. Nature was back in balance. A few scattered tribes of Hei and Joe roamed the planet and remained hostile to each other but lived in accord with nature.
