"The sentence is 3 to 5 years imprisonment at Her Majesty's
Pleasure"
The gavel went down. "3 to 5 years" Frank calculated-that would be
down to 3, with luck two and a half. Good Lord. And he had done
nothing
wrong. He was 22 and would be 25 to 27 when he'd get out.
Swiftly he was transferred to a van that took him to H.M.Prison at
Blackdermot. Everything went so quickly. Well, he would have to
escape
again. That is why the sentence was so high. And that was the only
thing
he was guilty of! Fleeing an unjust punishment.
He was led into an office where two guards and one higher officer
expected
him. They went about their business quickly. Soon Frank was back in
prison
gear. But then something strange happened. The officer addressed
him:
"Now,
3 to 5 years at the Queen's pleasure. We would
have a way of making sure it won't be more then 3. I think you are
interested from the background checks we have run on you." Frank
said
nothing and let the officer continue: "A medical company has entered
an
agreement with the Home Office. They are looking for volunteers to
test their new products. This testing is mandatory for a new product
to be allowed onto the market. Usually they ask hospital patients
and
students. That is very expensive for them and new products that
might
help many people are delayed by the process of finding volunteers.
Therefore prisoners are promised early release in exchange for their
participation as a volunteer. Now, the offer is 3 instead of 5 or
even
a bit less for you. Guaranteed. No good behaviour-rules, no risk.
The
tests are not threatening in any way, everything has been pre-tested
on
animals and live tissue. Supervised by doctors. Any questions?"
Frank said nothing because he could not say anything. He was
stunned.
He could try to escape again and there was no risk for the sentence.
The
perfect offer for someone like him. What he did not think of was
that
this offer might have been tailored for him to lure him. Frank
managed
to ask: "What about damage to my body? I don't want to be out in 3
years
if I'm a freak then, Sir".-"No, don't worry, no permanent damage.
Not
even pain during the trials. Decide quickly, 3 years or 5. And, of
course,
you would receive additional benefits like a private cell if
you wish so". What the hell, Frank thought, he'd try to get out of
here
asap anyway for he was innocent and he wouldn't mind to make the
stay here a bit more comortable. "Sir, I agree, where do I have to
sign?"
-----
So he was led into a different wing of the prison. There he was
shown
to his cell. Cell was the wrong word for it. Room would be more
befitting.
If it had not been for the bars in front of the window and the
little peep
hole in the door it might as well have been a hotel.
The cell was spacious, the were blinds and curtains in front of the
window
and a separate bathroom. The medical company probably paid for
this quite a bit, he thought to himself. On the table was a meal and
a can of BitterLemon. His favourite soft-drink. How'd they know or
did
they just guess? He had hardly had such a nice meal outside so Frank
ate it hungrily and quenched his thirst with the softdrink. He was
almost
waiting for room service to take the dirty plate away.
He tried the bed and found it very comfortable. Feeling a bit dizzy
he thought he might as well take a nap. His thoughts while falling
asleep
centered around the question whether he should try to get out
of this prison all that quickly.
--------------
Day 1
When he awoke he felt something was wrong. Something was really
wrong.
Frank had his eyes open but he could not see a thing. "They drugged
me" it
occurred to him. There must be a blindfold over his eyes. But
why? He tried to remove it but his arm would not do what he wanted.
Actually he couldn't feel his arm. He could not feel his body at
all!
This had to be a dream. Frank panicked but there was nothing he
could do.
Then he noticed the sound. Like an air-condition. A noisy one. Apart
from that he could not even hear a thing. What had he done? This had
to be one of the medical tests they were going to do on him.
Since Frank had lost his sensual abilities he did not notice the
alarm
that the heart monitior he was connected to made when his panic and
thus
the risen heartbeat were computed. What he did know was, however,
that suddenly he could hear again. First on the right ear, then on
both.
He could hear someone breathing close to his head. Good, at least he
was
not
deaf. Then Frank started to notice the light. Somehow
the complete darkness surrounding him went ever that slightly
brighter.
After what seemed like ages to him he could make out some structure.
A
face.
Like seen through 5 or 6 dark sunglasses at the same time.
"Good afternoon" the face said. "Don't panic, there is nothing wrong
with
you. No worry, everything will return to normal in a few days.
We had to make a few alterations on your body make it suit the
medical
tests. Maybe I should tell you first what we are testing here.
Oh, I'm sorry I have not introduced myself. My name's Jonas. That's
my
first name, we don't use last names here. I am an GP. Now, there are
two products currently undergoing trials here. The first, and we are
almost finished with that one, is a special synthetic material that
can be
glued to almost any kind of body tissue and that would grow
together with tissue.
Any bleeding is stopped by it since it has components of fibrin in
it.
So the body thinks it is a part of it.
The other product quite at the beginning of the testing process is a
drug that would prevent muscles from shrinking. As you might be
aware
muscles shrink when they are not used, i.e. when they are in a cast
or
a brace. This is called atrophy. The first results are very
promising.
We have now decided to study the long-term implications in here
since
extensive dismobilasation is required. And you don't get volunteers
for
being 3 months in a huge cast outside. The only drawback so far is
that it
will only be working on men. It is a testosterone-derivate and
therefore women can't take it.
-----
"Our team in here consists of on orthopaedic surgeon, an urolgist,
two
GPs, one of whose being humble Jonas, two chemistry
experts and 3 nurses with special education. Now and then
we are joined by a dental surgeon. Oh, and of course some outside
help if necessary. Our medical company is quite a big one,
incidentally.
The team does the medical work for every prisoner but
we centre our activity on a few special ones like you are.
Also, 6 of the prison staff know what is happening.
4 of these 15 are female, for example my GP colleague Kathy.
-----
"I have to apologize again, since I promised to tell you what
happened
to you. We injected a drug into your spine at the base of your head
that
is commonly used for spinal anaesthesia. Our company has improved
it a bit so we can use it long-term as well. That is why you can't
move or
feel a thing. By lowering your head a bit we hade sure your
neck and jaw are included, too. Because the muscles of your eyes
allowong
movement, focus and adjustment to light are, due to the lowered
head,
involved as well, you are wearing special glasses that
would admit no light or just a bit-as you see now".
Frank was relieved. So everything would be fine again soon. But what
was that about the alterations to his body. He started to get
nervous
again and this time he could hear the beep of the heart monitor.
"To be honest, you have been asleep for exactly 21 days now."
That hit Frank hard. He could remember going to bed just hours ago.
But he continuad to listen:
"Since you will be in casts or braces for longer periods of time, by
the way, you are included in the decision process, that might
include your pelvic area we gave you an overdose of a well-known
blue
pill developed by one of our competitors. God, were we angry when
they
hit the market. We were working on something similar. With it you
had a
long erection for about 6 hours or so. Since you are a healthy young
man that
simply means you will not get another one for about five months."
It was getting worse by the minute. That meant no sex for that time.
But then again, the chances in a prison were not exactly what Frank
liked. Not that he had not tried with men, that was part of growing
up,
but he preferred it the natural way. Although the pleasure was
a bit less every time. Almost every time. He had discovered that
bondage
had a certain appeal to him.
"For the cast/brace reason we also administered a product, one of
our
own again, I should say to the credit of John, one of the 2 chemical
artists as I call them you'll get to know, that is usually used in
chemotherapy. You know, one of the side effects is that people lose
their hair. Just imagine the itching under a cast with hair growing.
That won't happen for 5 months or so. The other side effect are
stomach
cramps so it was good you were asleep. Also with the other
thing I just mentioned, the pain is said to be quite extreme.
to be continued... any proposals welcome
