Having It Done: part 2 of 3

"Hey guys," Mandy said, excitedly, "JoAnn and Tarla are here."
Billy, looking a little stunned, whirled around toward Mandy.
"Uh oh, I'm sorry, Billy. We forgot to tell you JoAnn would be
coming."
"That's okay," Billy said, trying quickly to compose himself.
"We're still friends and all. Does she know I'm here?"
Mandy smiled and nodded her head affirmatively. "Why don't we all
go up to the living room," she said. "We can pull up the movie
schedule on the television and see what we want to go to tonight."
The boys all filed up the stairs behind Mandy.
In the living room JoAnn and Tarla were standing, talking to
Katrina. JoAnn was wearing blue jeans and a blue sweater. Her
blonde hair was clipped short, falling no further than the bottom
of her ears. She was taller than Billy by a good two inches and
Billy found this a little intimidating. He had never been attracted
to large forceful women, preferring instead, the little petite ones
like Mandy. But there was something that attracted him to JoAnn. He
could sense an inner kindness and sincerity behind her powerful,
assertive exterior.
JoAnn's younger sister, Tarla, was about Patrick's age and looked
like a downsized JoAnn, being six inches shorter than her older
sister. However, she had JoAnn's same forceful, assertive attitude.
Patrick and Tarla had an informal dating relationship at present,
and Billy reasoned that in two or three years Patrick would
probably be giving up his balls for her, just as Todd had done for
Katrina and Jim would soon do for Mandy.

As soon as Billy entered the room JoAnn's gaze transfixed him.
There was fire in those beautiful slate gray eyes, but she looked
more hurt than angry. The fire of passion still burned in her;
Billy could sense that. Even now, he longed to hold her and feel
her warmth against him; feel her soft loving breath against his
cheek.
Billy tried to tell himself that he would have no trouble remaining
faithful to a girl like JoAnn even if he could retain his balls,
but he really knew better. On this score Billy grudging admitted
the feminists were right. Given the right opportunity and
circumstances a man will stray from his commitment. He would be
very ashamed for his friends to know some of the fantasies he had
involving them. He often fantasized about having sex with Katrina
and Mandy, imagining that they would be hungry for a real man now
that Todd had been reduced to a eunuch and Jim was soon to follow.
Sometimes he would fantasize about having JoAnn, Katrina, Mandy,
and even Tarla in bed with him at the same time, all hungry for his
precious man meat and eagerly trying to please him in every way. He
even fantasized that Todd, Jim, and Patrick would be looking on,
their eyes hollow with despair and hopeless longing for the prowess
they had so foolishly thrown away. Only now would they realize that
Billy had been right all along, but they could only watch and weep
as the girls vied for the attention and affection of the only real
man remaining among them. His friends would serve and attend the
girls like the harem eunuchs of the of the ancient East, never
savoring the wondrous delights of manhood.
Billy felt a certain amount of guilt over finding these thoughts
erotic, but rationalized that it served them right for not
listening to him. He wondered too, how close this fantasy might be
to reality once Jim and Patrick joined Todd as eunuchs while Billy
himself remained a man. Surely there would be moments when the
girls would ache for the kind of love that only he could then
provide. He imagined that he felt a certain urgency in Katrina's
embrace this afternoon which might portend of things to come.
Surely she missed the old fire that had once burned in Todd's
loins, but was extinguished now forever.

Mandy grabbed the remote and switched on the television. The large
screen occupied most of the wall in one end of the room. After
surfing to a few of their favorite sites, she pulled up the movie
list and previews for the local theaters.
Billy had watched all his grandfathers old DVD's many times. He
liked the action movies they made back then. Most of the movies
that were being made today, his grandfather would have called
"chick flicks"; emotional, feature-length soap operas with plenty
of places to cry. Billy liked modern movies, however, because of
all the good looking women cast in them. Some of the new costumes
were fantastically sexy. He thought it ironic that they made such
sexy scenes now that practically the whole male population was
neutered. There was much talk in the media about mature admiration
of the feminine form that could not be comprehended or appreciated
by the lustful, boorish, untempered males of past generations.
Hell! Billy thought, he had no problem appreciating a good looking
woman just like he was. He didn't think being neutered would help
at all!

Mandy and Patrick's mom, Ms. Addison, came into the room briefly to
speak with the kids.
"Billy, I'm so glad to see you and JoAnn getting back together,"
she said.
"Well…, we're… ah… not exactly…"
"No, Billy still wants to go to Timbuktu or someplace after he
finishes school," Mandy said.
"Oh really," said Ms. Addison, smiling and speaking in an amused
tone of voice. "Do you mean you would give up all these fun movie
and pizza nights with your friends just to go live in a tent in
some desert and eat freeze-dried food?"
"Yeah," added Katrina, laughing, "Would you rather crawl into a
sleeping bag full of sand and maybe a scorpion rather
than...well...?
JoAnn managed a smile and a soft chuckle.
"Well, men do things like that," Billy replied.
"Men, of course!" Ms. Addison said, laughing. "Such ideas they
have! Fortunately, we no longer live in a world dominated by them.
Seriously, Billy, I was hoping you would grow out of your obsession
with this macho thing before it messed up your life. I've known you
all your life and I realize that your grandfather filled your head
with the myth and romance of the patriarchal age, but it's time to
move on, Billy. You must realize that, ultimately, clinging on to
those fantasies can only destroy your own happiness. It's your
life, sweetheart, and for your own sake, I do hope you will think
about what I've said." Ms. Addison hugged Billy and kissed him
affectionately on the cheek. Before leaving the room, she invited
them all to stay for dinner that evening, but as expected, the kids
thanked her and declined. They planned to stop off for pizza on the
way to the movie, a sexy comedy that was leading the box office
sales this week.
Billy knew what kind of life Ms. Addison thought would be
respectable, and the girls agreed with her. JoAnn's mother, Ms.
Fenton, owned three lingerie stores in the city and if he married
JoAnn he would walk into a ready-made career. Ms. Fenton was
expanding her line to include dance costumes and sportswear, and
she and JoAnn thought Billy should be delighted to work with this
new line of clothing since he liked sports. Billy had to admit that
the lifestyle had a certain appeal; being married to JoAnn and
working in a business where most of his customers would be
beautiful women, but having it done, being tempered, was out of the
question!
Clicking off the movie listings, Mandy caught the Continental World
Broadcasting (CWB) news mid way through the broadcast. Famous CWB
anchor person, Holly Willow, was giving the broadcast. Billy never
cared for Holly Willow even though he had to admit she was quite
attractive. In Billy's opinion she was a smug, arrogant feminist
with a strong anti-male bias.
The news appeared to be rather routine. The last hurricane of the
season had just dusted the Florida Keys with minimal damage; there
was an airplane crash in Europe; and some woman was charged with
insider trading on Wall Street. Then suddenly, everyone's attention
was riveted to the screen and Holly Willow.

"Recapping tonight's lead story, it appears that the same chemical
food additive that caused testicular cancer in the Western World
forty years ago has inadvertently found it's way into the food
supply of the Third World. The problem came to the attention of the
World Health Organization after thousands of men were suddenly
diagnosed with testicular cancer in Central Africa and the poorer
regions of Southern Asia and South America.
"Spokesperson, Krista Karpovitch of the World Health Organization
said it was too early to speculate on where and how the mistake was
made, but the number and distribution of cases indicates that the
additive has been widespread and present in the food supply for a
number of years. Ms. Karpovitch said that the Third World now finds
itself in essentially the same position of the West forty years
earlier.
"Fortunately," said Ms. Karpovitch, "the problem is easily
treatable." Ms. Karpovitch went on to say that there may be
resistance to treatment because of strong cultural traditions of
patriarchy and machismo in these parts of the world."

This was followed by a clip of a reporter interviewing Ms.
Karpovitch, basically reiterating what Holly Willow had just said.
Then Holly Willow held an on-screen interview with the leaders of
two large global feminist organizations, asking for their comments
on the social impact of this newly-discovered disaster.

Cassandra Daro of the prestigious and renowned League of Western
Feminists said:
"While we express our sincerest condolences to those few who may
suffer as a result of this accident, I think history will record
that it was most fortuitous in the larger scheme of things - a
blessing in disguise. If the impact of this event is anything
similar to what occurred in the West, then it will ring in a new
era of stability, prosperity, and achievement. The rampant problems
of overpopulation and hunger should rapidly decline over the next
decade. When a woman has to go to a clinic to be inseminated,
unwanted pregnancies are quite rare. This will allow the countries
to focus their resources on education and building infrastructure
rather than simply struggling to feed a starving population."

Becky Bosche of the more radical and militant Feminist United
Coalition (FUC) had the following to say:
"Regardless of the mechanism by which the additive found its way
into the food supply, I think this is a day when humanity and the
world can truly rejoice. After fifty centuries of patriarchal abuse
and injustice the age of man is at last over. October 26, 2069 of
this common era, will go down in history as the official end of the
age of man - the end of patriarchy. The Third World has too long
been a refuge and sanctuary for rogues and reactionaries who would
return the world to the age of patriarchal oppression. Now that
this last bastion of patriarchy has fallen, we can truly say, Never
again!"

Holly Willow came back on the screen explaining that the United
Nations was forming a special committee to investigate how the long-
banned food additive got into the food supply of the Third World.
They were going to "get to the bottom of this," she said. Holly
Willow's face was a thin mask of consternation, poorly disguising
her ecstatic mood. Her deceitful eyes danced with gleeful trickery,
behind the facade of false concern. Billy thought he could detect a
subtle hint of contempt for the gullibility of the viewing
audience, or was it contempt not for gullibility, but rather
contempt for those too weak or too powerless to protest the obvious
lie? Holly Willow's expression and manner reminded Billy of his
mother when she used to tell him about the Tooth Fairy and the
Easter Bunny.

It wasn't until Mandy switched off the television that Billy became
aware of everyone in the room staring at him. He suddenly realized
why, and felt very self-conscious. The reality of the breaking
story, with all its implications, was just now soaking in. Billy's
alternate future; his one escape route from this panty-lace,
feminist society had just been slammed shut. The undeveloped world
that once lay beyond the feminist frontier, where men were still
men, had just fallen. The reach of feminist dominion would soon
extend into every last crevice of the undomesticated realms. Also,
he suddenly realized that his own chances of escaping the neutering
scalpel had just been reduced to near zero. Billy just stood there,
ashen-faced, staring back at his friends.
It was Jim who first broke the awkward silence.
"I'm sorry, Billy," he said, "I really am."
Rather than finding comfort in that statement, it just seemed to
reinforce and drive home the awesome reality of this recent world
tragedy. Suddenly Billy found himself doing something he hadn't
done since he was eight years old; he was crying in front of his
friends.
"Oh, Billy, you shouldn't take it so hard," Katrina said, in a
soothing, sympathetic voice as she ran up and put an arm over his
shoulder. "It's not the end of the world, you know."
Almost simultaneously, Mandy grabbed his other arm and offered
words of comfort. "Billy, you've always got us, no matter what
happens," she said. "We're still just one big family - like
always." Mandy, usually taunting and cynical when it came to
matters of feminist politics, seemed genuinely concerned over
Billy's predicament and offered him all the comfort and support she
could.
Suddenly, Billy felt another pair of hands on his face, thumbs
gently massaging his temples. Billy opened his tear-filled eyes and
looked up to see JoAnn's soft slate gray eyes staring back at him.
"Billy, I still love you," she said, softly. "You know I do. Fate
has brought you back to me, Billy. You may not see it now, buy I
think you have just been saved from a life of loneliness and
hardship. It's like Cassandra Daro said; its really all for the
best in the long run, you'll see."
JoAnn kissed Billy softly on each tear-soaked eyelid before
stepping back.

The girls pulled Billy over to the sofa and he sat down with
Katrina and JoAnn on either side of him. After choking and sobbing
for a couple more minutes he finally settled down an began to
compose himself.
"Are you going to be alright, man?" Todd asked.
Billy nodded his head, looking more embarrassed now than anything
else. He was soon joining in conversation with his friends, talking
about the movie they had chosen to go to this evening and
discussing the new toppings now available at their favorite pizza
parlor. Finally he and the other boys were discussing last night's
football game, the disappointing heartbreaker that almost was, but
wasn't.
JoAnn called the girls into a little huddle where they were talking
in whispers and occasionally giggling.
"Say, guys," Mandy called, standing on the stairs to elevate
herself above the others. "It's over two hours before we need to
leave. I have some really cool new programs on my virtual reality
machine. Why don't we all come up to my room and have a look?"
Everyone seemed amiable to her suggestion and began filing up the
stairs as she led the way. JoAnn lagged behind and caught Billy by
the shoulder as he started to ascend the stairs. She had a
mischievous glint in her eye and Billy knew she was up to something.
"Not you, hot buns," JoAnn said in a gruff whisper, "me and you
gotta talk!"
